Subpoenas in Troopergate

In all honestly I haven't had enough time to dig into this. But it looks like Palin's husband has been issued a subpoena by the Alaska legislature about the whole issue.

How hard it is it to follow the rules people? Really? I'm not sure if this is a witch hunt or if it's legitimate. And really, at this point I'm not sure I could tell the difference. But between Rezko, troopergate, whitewater (or whatever that deal with the Clinton's was), the land deal of Harry Reid's out in Nevadad ... why is it these people can't just do things the right way?

But then I wonder ... if I were running for office ... what would they dig up on me?

Hehehe ... this blog!

Just passing thru and thought I might clarify.

I've been following the troopergate story since it's inception in late July/early August. The nuts and bolts are that Sarah Palin's sister, Molly was married to an Alaska state trooper, Mike Wooten back in 2005. Wooten is not necessarily your best bet as an SO (he's in his 30's and has been married 4 times)--he appears to be an alcoholic and has some anger management issues.

Back in 2005, Sarah and Todd tried to help Molly by documenting some of Wooten's transgressions and agitating with his supervisors. The charges that have been SUBSTANTIATED are: 1. he tasered his 10 year old stepson (Molly's son) with a state issued taser; 2. he threatened Molly's (and Sarah's) father, saying "if your dad try's to help you, he will eat a f___ing lead bullet; and 3) he shot a moose out of season (a big deal in AK. It's also pretty clear that Wooten drank alcohol in his police cruiser, although that charge has not been officially substantiated. Todd Palin also claims that he saw Wooten driving a snowmobile after filing a workman's comp claim--that may be why he is subpoenaed to testify.

In any case, back in 2005 Wooten was suspended by the head, Julia Grimes, for 10 days--the troopers union got involved and the suspension was reduced to 5 days. Since then Wooten and Molly were divorced (he since remarried and divorced again). Todd and Sarah have continued to state that they feel he needs to be off the state trooper force.

The brouhaha actually arises from Palin's recent firing of Walt Monegan, who was her Commissioner of Public Safety. Actually, she didn't fire him--she just offered him a lesser position, saying that she wanted to take the department in a different direction. Since she is the governor and he "serves at her pleasure", this is within her right as the state governor. But Monegan is claiming that she really fired him because she wanted him to fire her ex-brother in law, and he did not. This could be construed as an abuse of power.

Personally, I think this whole thing has been developed by some local Alaskans (one, Andrew Halcro, ran against Palin for state office several years ago) that have an ax to grind with Palin. I also would not be surprised if there wasn't some outside influence (Obama camp?) to buzz this up. Even some prominent Democrats are stating that this is a non-starter.
