Obama and Sex Education

YouTube video of McCain's ad HERE as the impetus of this post.

Here is what I hate about election ads: They are too short, too glib, and too mean. Oh, and they always use ugly still shots of their competitors. Come on guys ... I know Obama's a good looking guy. No need to use pictures of him scowling.

This one in particular ... it gives quotes and times and references, but no context. I need context. They should have a link or a website call to action that invites me to research this topic for myself. But alas ... the world is not yet StacyLand, and therefore it is not perfect.

Okay, so the Obama folks / supporters say that this ad is false because Obama does not favor sex education for 6 year olds. But ... well that's simply not true. He does favor sex education for grade school kids. He says "age appropriate" sex education for as young as kindergarden. This would be to show these youngsters the difference between appropriate touch and inappropriate touch.

The debate here, inflamed by the charged ad linked above, is whether or not parents or schools should be responsible for the safety and education of our children. At 5 years old, they're studying crayons and numbers and colors and a few small words. You can achieve the same goal of keeping them away from bad people, by teaching them to never talk to strangers. Stranger danger has worked for years.

So, I disagree with Obama on this issue. McCain is not wrong to bring this up. Unfortunately, he's going after the lowest common denominator I guess and he only has 15 seconds with which to get his message across.
