What's this about John Edwards?
I've only heard whispers of this ... but did John Edwards father a baby on a woman he was having an affair with while his wife was battling cancer? And did he shut her up by paying her off? And did Hillary Clinton threaten to start asking questions about this in February so she could force him out of the election? And has the press known about this affair since December and stayed stoic on the whole thing?
Strange. Puts a new twist on that $400 haircut maybe.
FoxNews has it today that Edwards was seen slipping out the backdoor of yet another hotel on Wednesday. I think I heard about this on the radio. Reporters were trying to ask him questions about the mistress (reporters from the Enquirer I believe?) and he evaded them through a backdoor in the kitchen. Mickey Kaus over at Slate has a round-up of who's been saying what and how the big reporters are staying away from this. Via his link I found this at HuffPo ... which is worth a read.
She surmises at the end that part of the reason the MSM's aren't running it yet is because of Elizabeth Edwards and her battle with cancer and her prominence in the party. I think it's sweet and all that they value her so much (her husband allegedly doesn't) but they didn't care a lick about Spitzer's family or that lady in New Jersey, or the host of other shamed wives.

If this were McCain = News. Romney = News. Bush (any Bush) = NEWS NEWS NEWS NEWS NEWS. It wouldn't matter if the story orginated because the paparazzi were staking out celebs at the Beverly Hills Hotel at 3:00AM and accidentally ran into John Edwards coming out the door after hanging with his mistress and their child.
Oh, oh, oh! Let's not forget about the constant, unstoppable beating that Newt Gingrich still recieves to this day for serving divorce papers to his wife in the hospital while she battled cancer. It wasn't true ... but his opponent said that it was and they ran with it. What is true, is that they did get divorced (I want to say because of an affair?) either while she was in the hospital or sometime shortly thereafter.
If that was news, than John Edwards cheating on his wife while she has cancer, is most certainly news.
But this isn't the only thing that the media isn't reporting. Remember when he was running for President? And he was talking about the high cost of education? He was going to set up a scholarship program for everyone. Big news. Well, that program is gone now. With no fanfare and little explanation. I guess kids only need money for college when he's running for President.
Between all this and the 24/hr coverage that's about to start at CNN once enough people start talking about this ... well I'd think his shot at VP is slimmer than slim to none.
So what's all this about squeaky-clean Democrat John Edwards and a sordid sex scandal? What, you haven't heard? If that's the case, then maybe you're one of the few remaining Americans who get most of their news from those dead-trees-and-ink thingies.
Members of the so-called Main Stream Media - yes, including this one - have treated the story of an alleged Edwards affair as if it were just another space alien story out of the National Enquirer. But wait! It is indeed the Enquirer that is out in front on this story, but it appears they have slightly more to go on than a UFO sighting.
They say they caught Edwards taking a back elevator to a woman's Beverly Hilton Hotel suite at 2 a.m. last week, and when the stakeout team tried to talk to him about what he was doing there, he bolted back downstairs and hid in a bathroom for 15 minutes before security intervened.
