Joe Biden

Well I wrote here that I was leaning towards Biden. And like this commentary over at the AP, I look at this as Obama filling in his weaknesses with a senior Washington guy who knows the ropes. And who is also the head of the foreign intelligence committee.

I know enough about Biden to know that he does not represent any kind of change. I know enough about Senators to know that one is as good as the next one. They are all playboy rich kids who enjoy having their private cars paid for by the tax payers while they bemoan the state of the economy and promise their constituents better years to come. After the speech they take their armored SUVs back to the Plaza, drink champagne and eat steak and caviar complaining about how many pictures they had to take.

Meanwhile, a team of 3-6 lawyers (depending on the Senator) is back in Washington in a dark room drafting a bill that we will come to know as the Jane Doe Bill, and this team of lawyers will meet with another senators team of lawyers, and that is how policy is made.

If McCain picks from the same field ... and we have another Senator VP, it's just going to look like a luncheon in the Capitol building. They are all friends. Save for Obama, who's not been there long enough to have made friends, but has powerful pushers and shackers that allowed him to impress the dem glitteratti, they are all buddies. Scratch my back, I scratch yours.

I loathe Senators. Congressman are more honest, because they have to at least defend their positions every two years. Senators are bullet proof. 6 years in office gives them plenty of time to increase their incumbancy, and make it near impossible for a newcomer to make any progress. It's how Biden is able to remain in office for 36 years. That is not democracy, that's a monarch. The monarch of Delware, similar to the King of Mass, Kennedy. Who's elected only because he's catholic and his last name is the same as a man that they revere.

Every time I talk about term limits my husband says we have term limits ... we can vote them out at any time. If only we utilized our power!

Biden is going to be the kink in the armor. He has spoken out of turn several times, and was outspoken during the primaries that Obama was not ready to be President. He's very friendly with McCain, and when Kerry was running in '04 he suggested McCain would be a fitting running mate to beat W. When Obama said he would meet with Iran and North Korea, Biden said that was a stupid position (I paraphrase). And Biden is well known at making stupid comments. He called Obama "clean" in the primaries and insulted Indians by saying you couldn't go into a 7-Eleven without an Indian accent.

Regardless of all this ... to me it signifies that Obama is afraid of exactly what Hillary was critized for saying months ago: that he can't carry blue collar states like Ohio, Michigan or West Virginia, and he doesn't speak to white, middle-aged, male voters. To combat this, he has picked someone that is the furthest thing from change ... he picked someone who is decidedly about the status quo.

Oh, also worth noting ... you probably won't hear a lot about lobbyist money any more. Because Biden's pockets are lined with cash from those folks.
