Austin
Friday I took a much needed day off and that evening we drove down to Austin for a friends birthday party. Friday night (oh and we got out LATE) we hung out on 6th street, which, if you know anything about Austin, is the place that the young Bush girls were caught underage drinking. It's actually a very fun place, they block off the streets and there are just masses of people and equal number of bars playing loud music and selling cheap beer.
Sometimes cheap. Sometimes.
Anywho. Saturday we woke up early and got around so we could be at the river at a decent time. As is the way of things in groups ... the rest of the group did not get up early and did not get around and we did not get to the river at a decent time. But that's okay. We were on the river by 2 I think.
And while tubing down the Guad is fun and a time of comraderie, I'm not so sure it's exactly my cup of tea. And really the only reason I say that ... is I am not fond of crowds. And there were just masses of people everywhere. 100s of 1000s of people just laying around in tubes. As far as the eye could see. It was intimidating. I was afraid I would get separated from my pack and get lost in the herd, never to be seen from again.
And maybe I'm too old or too paranoid ... but flashes of newspaper headlines kept going through my head ... 20 something injured on Texas River - Police Notify Parents. I think I just have issue with water sport and alcohol. It's so easy to get hurt ...
But I did have a great time. Mostly it's the company. Our friends from college are a great bunch and we've all known each other so long now it's like a reunion every time we get together. The old stories come out, interspersed with tales of whats happening currently. Who's having a baby, who's engaged, who's getting married ...
A good time was had by all. When I get pictures up ... and I didn't take many because there was no way I was bringing my camera on an innertube. I love that thing too much ... I'll post them.
Next up - I have a busy work week and probably wont be here much. This weekend we're probably going to Houston. I say probably because Lewis has a hard work week too. So we're going to see how we feel. Weekend after that is Lewis's trip to Chicago, and the weekend after that I think is free ... followed by ... dum dum dum ... our trip to EUROPE!
And you KNOW I'll have pictures from that!
