Things Worth Doing

Over the weekend we went and saw Kung Fu Panda with my in-laws. It was wonderful. I recommend seeing it in digital, because we did and I just thought it was so pretty. Jack Black is very funny, and it was just a really great movie. If you have a munckin bring them too, because the kids in the crowd seemed to love it. We didn't have any kiddos with us though - and I enjoyed it thoroughly!

Last weekend I wrapped up Sara Gruen's Water For Elephants and I loved it. I had bought the book months ago, but had never picked it up and read through it. I hadn't been in the mood. I wasn't really familiar with the plot line and I didn't know what to expect so I kept putting it off in favor of re-reading a trilogy from the early 90s, a bad book on Katherine Parr (which I did not finish and will probably find it's way to 1/2 Priced Books), Allison Wier's Innocent Traitor, about 4 or 5 travel books on Germany and Paris, and Amanda Quick's new book. And others I'm not thinking of now.

But, when I did pick it up, I loved it. The prologue brings us to a tale outside a circus tent. There is some tension, talk about leaving while he still can, and then the "disaster march" is played by the circus band, and the hands all run to help. A stampede is crushing from the menagerie to the main tent. The viewers must be evacuated!

In the middle of all this ... he sees a girl. It all run rolls from there.
It was fun. I loved the elephant. I loved the monkey. I loved the entire circus because ... well I'd never read a book about the circus before. It made me want to go buy tickets to Ringling Brothers (mentioned throughout)!

By the way, you can't carry water for elephants. They drink too much for any person to carry. Just one of the many things you can learn ...
