Things to Read
I've posted this before ... from Obama's Website:
Iran has sought nuclear weapons, supports militias inside Iraq and terror across the region, and its leaders threaten Israel and deny the Holocaust. But Obama believes that we have not exhausted our non-military options in confronting this threat; in many ways, we have yet to try them.
Obama is the only major candidate who supports tough, direct presidential diplomacy with Iran without preconditions. Now is the time to pressure Iran directly to change their troubling behavior. Obama would offer the Iranian regime a choice. If Iran abandons its nuclear program and support for terrorism, we will offer incentives like membership in the World Trade Organization, economic investments, and a move toward normal diplomatic relations. If Iran continues its troubling behavior, we will step up our economic pressure and political isolation. Seeking this kind of comprehensive settlement with Iran is our best way to make progress.
From the WSJ:
There is, of course, nothing wrong with wanting to talk to an adversary. But Mr. Obama and his supporters should not pretend this is "change" in any real sense. Every U.S. administration in the past 30 years, from Jimmy Carter's to George W. Bush's, has tried to engage in dialogue with Iran's leaders. They've all failed.
Just two years ago, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice proffered an invitation to the Islamic Republic for talks, backed by promises of what one of her advisers described as "juicy carrots" with not a shadow of a stick. At the time, I happened to be in Washington. Early one morning, one of Ms. Rice's assistants read the text of her statement (which was to be issued a few hours later) to me over the phone, asking my opinion. I said the move won't work, but insisted that the statement should mention U.S. concern for human- rights violations in Iran.
"We don't wish to set preconditions," was the answer. "We could raise all issues once they have agreed to talk." I suppose Ms. Rice is still waiting for Iran's mullahs to accept her invitation, even while Mr. Obama castigates her for not wanting to talk.
The Europeans invented the phrase "critical dialogue" to describe their approach to Iran. They negotiated with Tehran for more than two decades, achieving nothing.
And not to start beating on a drum that's being beaten to death ... but why talk to Iran but not to Iraqi leaders? Or Gen. Petreaus about our situation there? Obama's response was that Iraq had not met the necessary benchmarks, and essentially there time was up.
Hmm ... but Iran has met the necessary "benchmarks" to get a meeting of state? As Cher would say, I don't thin-K soooo.

Where the Polar Bear started, others are following. The Center for Biological Diversity is suing to have the Pacific walrus added to the "threatened species" list. Why? Because global warming will threaten their existence in the years to come.
They are looking to go after Pacific off shore oil.
I heard on the radio that Mars' atmosphere is 95% carbon. Ours is less than 1%. Jupiter (a planet I did a science project on many, many moons ago) has developed a new red spot. A new storm. Which indicates climate change.
From MSNBC (link above):
The Hubble and Keck images may support the idea that Jupiter is in the midst of global climate change, as first proposed in 2004 by Phil Marcus, a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of California at Berkeley. The planet's temperatures may be changing by 15 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit. The giant planet is getting warmer near the equator and cooler near the south pole.
Unbelievable. It may be happening on Jupiter but it is a certain FACT here on earth. I did a search on global warming on MSNBC. Found this story on Jakarta. Compare the two.
The situation — exacerbated by slowly rising seas from global warming and the fact that Jakarta is sinking up to 2 inches a year — could mean flooding will exceed last November's roof-high levels in the hardest-hit areas, said Hongjoo Hahm, the bank's infrastructure expert.
...
Indonesia, a sprawling archipelago nation, is one of the world's largest contributors of carbon dioxide emissions, thanks to the rapid pace of deforestation. But experts say the country is also at risk of becoming one of the biggest victims of climate change.
...
The 18-year high tide cycles occur when the sun and moon are in direct alignment and making their closest approach to the Earth. Other factors, such as global warming or El Nino and La Nina, have made the sea swells even larger in recent years, Hahm said.
Hmm. No accounting for who the different authors are, as there are no bylines. But whatever. We all know that global warming is a religion and not a science. Take this brilliant piece of legislation out of a Congressman from Massachusetts:
Rep. Edward Markey (D-Mass.), chairman of the House global warming panel, will introduce a bill next week that would cut emissions 85 percent below 2005 levels by 2050, more than the leading Senate bill to be debated on the floor next week.
Markey said the measure would generate $8 trillion through the auctioning of emissions allowances to polluters.
Part of that $8 trillion would go back to the poor who can not afford rising energy costs. Yeah for us people who pay our bills and who cut back in other areas to make room for the high cost in others.
“That is the role of government, to move from the black-rotary-dial-phone era to the broadband-Google-YouTube era. We had to change the policy, though, because the companies weren’t doing it.”
Uh, I don't think that's the governments role at all. In fact, I'd say your oath of office didn't mention anything about technological advancements. I think it probably said something about upholding the constitution and keeping the land safe from tyranny. Maybe that's why he writes legislation like this based on junk science, because he doesn't know his role.
Either way, Jupiter has a changing climate. Mars has obviously had a changing climate. In fact - gasp - even EARTH has had a changing climate. But the previous 2 ice ages and resulting melts do not impact people's logical thinking here. If the climate is changing, what arrogant idiots are we that think that by telling JC Penney to pay a carbon tax to Uncle Sam that it will somehow stop? If the earth is heating up - we will have to do what the animals did during the ice age and the other changes - ADAPT. And not by paying taxes. But by getting tanner skin, lighter hair, growing plants that thrive in warmer enviornments, etc. And if we don't, we'll go extinct. No car driving or not car driving is going to change that.
And further more - I'd like to see some nation TRY and get China to slow down it's economy. Just try. See what ole Red tells you. Or even India for that matter. They are going hard and fast over there and they do not want to slow down.
But I guess as long as America slows down our carbon outputs and blah blah blah the world will right itself and global warming will cease. And then we won't go extinct. President Obama, which is who Congressman Markey is waiting for, will certainly save us.
I can hardly wait.
