Texas has a surplus of $10B+ from oil

What do we think the chances are that we get some of this money back?

I have to tell you ... it's nice living in a rich state. I remember when I first came to college out here, I was amazed at the things out here. The housing, the government buildings, the new libraries, etc. etc. Mom was driving the rental car and she said, "Texas is a rich state."

No more true than now, with demand for gas shooting through the roof and oil companies hiring to keep up with that demand.

With our low cost of living and more northerners coming down this way for work and to ... well have a better life, our economy is doing well. While we have signs of the housing slowdown (forclosures and companies bracing for a bear market), in my area inparticular homes are being built and sold and we have businesses cropping up everywhere. It's nice, and a pleasant respite from the news that the world is going to hell in a handbasket.

But I have an even twenty that says our greedy lawmakers (Republicans, mind you) will find a way to spend every ounce of this "surplus" and it won't go to raising teacher salaries or building state parks.
