Public Education
Lots of people talking about how bad public schools are and an old story from WaPo that got pushed to Michelle today talks about how some people bought more house than they could afford because they were in the good school districts.
The poster is looking for a house and he's apparently got kids so he's looking for homes in good school districts.
And on Rush today he was talking about how bad public schools are and Neal Boortz consistently says sending your kids to public school is tantamount to child abuse. If you go to public school, you'll be stupid, you won't go to college, you must find a better way ... blah blah blah.
Let me just say - almost everyone I know went to public school. And, blessed as we are, almost everyone we know owns there own home (or is saving to own their own home), has a good job, and graduated with a BA or better. So while my geography and history are no where NEAR where they should have been or be, public school isn't all that bad.
And might I point out for the 100th time - education begins at home. No one can expect to ship their kid somewhere and have them come home geniuses.
My sister went to public school. She graduated from college and has a good job. My husband. My brother-in-law, my sister-in-law. My Dad, my Mom, my father-in-law, probably everyone in my family actually, went to public school.
While there may be problems with the system (and oh yes there are) ... it's not quite the dragons lair of hades that many are portraying it to be.
