Other Countries to Dictate our Home Temperatures

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.

"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen," he added.

Obama said this at a campaign stop in Oregon that - if pictures can be believed - had thousands upon thousands of supporters in attendance.

I'd like to know what temperature he keeps his house at. It's 96 degrees in Texas today, and I keep my thermostat at 78 while we're away and 74 while we're home. Why only 78? Because YOU try getting your house cooled off from over 80 degrees at 6:00 in the evening, when it's still 80+ outside. The AC runs constantly, not good for my electric bill.

I got into a huge conversation about this while in California, talking to my parents about how people who drive 4WD cars, or cars that hold more than 5 people are the baby seal clubbers of the new Milena. It's not fashionable to own one, it's tantamount to environmental genocide if you buy one, and you lose all credibility for that recycling you've done for the past 20 years because ... well you own a big car.

Time Magazine has 51 ways to save the environment. Number 41 is carpooling. 5 of them, have the word "carbon" in the title, and most of those are about paying for your carbon outputs. One of the other options, is to stop buying new clothes. I guess the hit the economy would take if we all stopped buying textiles is ... well not important. Oh but everyone won't do these things? Well then what's the point? Either these are real solutions that all people can do, or it's pandering to a global warming crowd that wants to feel self-righteous when they shop at Susie's Consignments.

Another one is move to a high rise. Yes. Yes this makes sense. Families of 4 should move to New York City and live in Manhattan high rises. Yes. Yes the middle class can afford this.

Look: People live in Jersey because they can't afford Manhattan.

Other great one - Skip the steak. Yes, no blatant agenda pushing at Time. (Why am I evening reading this??) Again, another example of how this is pandering to a group of individuals, and they are not real solutions.

Time also has a graphic of how climate change will effect the globe in 2020. It's laughable. The source is Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change (I'm sure their name implies no agenda). And you can see, that we are all doomed.

While we were at the La Brea tar pits on Thursday, we watched the video about what happened to the creatures that were roaming freely around LA before they got stuck on the fly paper and either baked to death or were eaten by voltures. The video said - kid you not - that while no one knows if the climate change that killed these creatures was man made or not ...

Yes, yes of course. Because 30,000 years ago Los Angeles was producing as much carbon dioxide as it is today, and man killed the wooly mammoth. The other idea proposed in the video was that the world is worse off because they creatures are not here.

Um ... not so much. I don't miss the dinosaurs. Or wooly mammoths, or saber tooth tigers. Nope. Don't miss them. Do you?

Anyway. The whole thing is, I don't think it's right that France or Germany or Italy or Russia dictate how cool I keep my house. And I really - REALLY - want to know what temperature Obama's house is at. Really. Can someone ask that? Oh, and the temp on his private jet please. Thanks much.
