McClellan's Mommy Factor

Updated --- read this about how George Soros (of MoveOn.Org fame) is connected to the publishing of McClellan's book.

Most people outside the state don't know who the crazy grandma is. But she's Carole Keeton Strayhorn, and she ran for Governor against Rick Perry and Kinky Friedman. Her slogan was "one tough grandma" and she was ridiculous. During the debates, she didn't know answers to some really simple questions. Like, who the President of Mexico was. As someone running for Governor of Texas, a great big border state with real immigration issues and who would probably end up talking to said President of Mexico ... well she really ought to have known who he was.

As compcontroller, well ... she was never indicted. But it was rumored that she gave tax exempt status and other favors to her contributors. She also revoked the tax exempt status of a church out in south Texas somewhere, and under review that decision was revoked. She thought the church wasn't a real religion, so they should have to pay taxes too.

As Mayor of Austin (3 terms) she was a Democrat. As Comptroller, a Republican. As a candidate for Governor, an Independent. Her political leanings bend with the way the wind is blowing. Austin, well you have to a be a Democrat. They won't have anyone else down there. Comptroller, well that's a statewide election, and this state was very red in the 90s. As Governor ... well the wind was blowing towards the middle. Larger hispanic population that votes decidedly left is bending the electorate that way. So she stays in the middle.

She's been married 3 times, the first time to Scott's Dad, Barr McClellan. Who wrote a book saying his law firm handled the assassination of JFK for Johnson. Anyone else who could have corroborated that story has died.

Quality.

Ari Fleischer, the man who convinced me to go into PR, was on MSNBC sometime in the last few days and said that Scott was trying to get on good terms with the other side, but that they would use him for a while and then throw him away.

He's right. What candidate, on either side, would trust a turncoat?

Scott was a bad choice from the beginning. Another in a string of bad appointments that the President made, choosing to promote his friends and family friends instead of looking for quality people who believed in the same principles he did.

Strayhorn's politics have always been about what was best for her at any particular moment. It's not surprising to see Scott utilizing the same tactic. The sad fact is though, his career is now over, as neither side will want him in any position, ever again.
