Dude, someone at the FAA is soooo fired

If they weren't fire for the Southwest mess, they are definitely, oh so definitely, fired for this American Airlines mess.

So Southwest had inspection violations and continued to fly anyway in 2007, the FAA fined them like $10M dollars. And apparently, there is a top "regional" inspector that works for the FAA that is intended to inspect both Southwest and American Airlines.

Makes me wonder about all those flights I've been on. How many were not properly maintenanced because the FAA guy in charge of it was on vacation or would rather keep his airline perks coming? Because you KNOW he got airline perks. A free ticket here, an upgrade here, hotel room here.

I hesitate to call any airplane safety inspection arbitrary, as most of these plans are several years old and should be inspected reguarly. But as I sit here on hold trying to make changes to employee travel, as I've been sitting for the better part of 20 minutes, I wonder how much easier the world would be if everyone just took trains.
