Angry.

I get more, and more, and more irritated with the things I'm reading about this polygamist thing.

People are actually saying that this violates that groups freedom of religion.

The law of the land is this: having sex with girls under the age of 18 is illegal. One of the girls that were taken from the compound was a 16 year old girl who had 4 - count them 4 - children already. Meaning what? Oh yeah ... that since about 14 her "husband" (probably old enough to be her grandfather) had been ... I can't even stomach it.

I am so, so, so tired of people hiding under this banner. Muslims in the name of Islam kill their daughters and mothers and wives because they bring them dishonor. The world does nothing because it's their religion and their belief. Polygamist extremists silently (within our own borders!) marry and have children with girls as young as 12. And it's okay, because it's their religion.

One post says: "I worry most for the young children. They no nothing of this world, and have been torn out of the world they know."

If I had been raised in an abusive home, and knew only that abusive home, would you not remove me from it?

Now, obviously, the government is messing up here in a huge, huge way. They are throwing the baby out with the bathwater so to speak. Rather than leaving these children with their mothers (whom some would argue are abused themselves) they are placing them as wards of the state, to burden the tax payers and a system that already is full of flaw after flaw after flaw.

Putting those kids in foster care is not the answer.

Removing the pedophile dads from the equation, trying them by the law of the land seems like a much simpler, legal solution.

Anyway ... had to rant.

Hear, hear!

You can believe whatever you want, but in you're going to act you have to act within the law--it's that simple, really.

Poor kids though. I wonder if they're not leaving them with the mothers because the mothers would allow them to be further abused because it's what their "religion" requires?

I think the state will charge the moms with facilitating the abuse. I don't know the legal term. I think they will have to prove that the mom's knew what they were allowing to happen to their children was abuse, but I do think they will try. The child welfare system has stuck its neck out and they will not back down. I don't see how they can because if this happened outside of the arena of a "religion" the parents would be charged with many crimes. I think the mom's lawyers will be able to make the case that the mom's were not able mentally to determine what was best for their child.

Looking from the outside, this seems to be a very sad situation. The issues with the children and the mothers are only the tip of the iceberg.

What about the boys that watched all of this and have been raised to think this is "normal" behavior. They will go through the system with a cursory look, and barring any blantant show of hideous conduct, be expected to live their lives among the general population - probably with very little follow up. Since we grow up to live what we consider "normal", what will these boys be like when they are men and fathers?

This web is wide and in some places very difficult to follow. I pray the counselors will be as concerned for the boys are they are for the girls and women.
