Obama Takes Questions, Hillary Prays, the World Waits.

Washington Post Dana Milbank has a piece today about reporters in San Antonio finally questioning Obama about some things he's not too keen to talk about. Cheifly the private, wink wink, meeting his aides had with Canadian officials and his NAFTA rhetoric. Also his business dealings with Tony Rezko, a Chicago man who's trial started today. He is "accused of funneling state business to companies that lined his pockets and made campaign contributions to Gov. Blagojevich. Rezko allegedly directed $10,000 to Obama's 2004 campaign for the U.S. Senate." [from Editorial Page, Chicago Sun Times.]

The Chicago paper has a bunch of questions they'd like answered, and Obama's dealings with the supposed criminal could be more than just peripheral. Obama and Rezko toured his southside mansion before it's purchase in 2004.

Forgive my slight disgust at his owning a South Side Chicago Mansion. I can't stand those that use class warfare to motivate the bases and yet stand in their fancy suits with their limo drivers and their South Side Mansions.

Yesterday, the press corp finally decided there were some issues they wanted to talk about. And I think, maybe they've found some things he's lied / mislead them on, and nothing ticks off a journalist more than printing what someone says as fact, only later to find out that it's not.

Case in point, the Canada conversation. One of Obama's economic advisors reportedly had a conversation with a Canadian official saying that Obama's harsh critisim of NAFTA has been for political show. So, ya know, don't take it seriously. He's still in your corner.

Obama denied the conversation took place. Well ... then a memo came out of Canada confirming the conversation did take place, and Obama back pedaled saying ... "When I gave you that information, that was the information that I had at the time."

It didn't work for GW and weapons of mass destruction, it shouldn't work for Obama.

Via a link on Drudge ... Canadian officials are now backing up Obama, even though their written memo regarding the conversation previously alluded that Obama's public remarks about NAFTA stealing jobs from the US were not to be taken seriously, as he had no intention of disrupting the "accord."

Now the Canadia PM is denying that his country is trying to meddle in an American election by stirring the pot.

Eh. It's a global economy right? It's a global market place! All hail the UN! We care so much about what foreign nations think about us that we're choosing a President because "He can restore the American image abroad." (Sen. Leahy, D Vermont). So why shouldn't foreigners impact our election? Hell, they really already are. I've heard many people comment, "if we just had a better standing in the world, I'd be happier."

No worries about taxes, terrorism, education ... The other kids in the cafeteria don't want to sit at our lunch table, so we're going to vote based on who can get us at the cool kids table. My whole life I was told that being popular was less important than doing what was right. Now, I'm being told that we have to do what is popular, possibly at the expense of doing what is right, because it's more important for people to feel comfortable traveling in France.

John Adams said in 1814, "Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There was never a democracy that did not commit suicide."

Here's hoping that this isn't the end of that shining image of hope. I'd hate to be able to pinpoint in my life time the moment that the United States of America went from democracy to socalism. And they are mutually exclusive, you can not have both. Democracy highlights property rights and rights of the individual. Socialism counts the whole as greater than it's parts, and all property belongs to the community or state, not the individual.

Either the state owns my properties, or I do, and can do with them as I see fit. It can not be both.
