Gloria Steinem. Idiot. So naturally a Hillary supporter.
Said Steinem:
“Suppose John McCain had been Joan McCain and Joan McCain had got captured, shot down and been a POW for eight years. [The media would ask], ‘What did you
do wrong to get captured? What terrible things did you do while you were there as a captive for eight years?’” Steinem said, to laughter from the audience.McCain was, in fact, a prisoner of war for around five-and-a-half years, during which time he was tortured repeatedly. Referring to his time in captivity, Steinem said with bewilderment, “I mean, hello? This is supposed to be a qualification to be president? I don’t think so.”
Steinem’s broader argument was that the media and the political world are too admiring of militarism in all its guises.
“I am so grateful that she [Clinton] hasn’t been trained to kill anybody. And she probably didn’t even play war games as a kid. It’s a great relief from Bush in his jump suit and from Kerry saluting.”
To the Observer, Steinem insisted that “from George Washington to Jack Kennedy and PT-109 we have behaved as if killing people is a qualification for ruling people.”
These are the crazy people.
It may not necessarily "qualify" him to be President, but it deserves her damn respect and reverence. I'd like to see her tortured for 5 years and see what she thought she deserved after that time.
And when it was supposed that Jessica Lynch had been taken captive in Iraq, I don't remember reading a single media account that asked what she had done wrong, or how she had "asked" to be captured.
But I don't think she was really referring to women being POWs. Do you?
John McCain is no favorite of mine. But the man can't raise his arms above elbow height because they were both broken and never set correctly while he was a POW. He deserves everyone's respect; feminist, Democrat, Libertarian, Atheist, etc. Everyone's.
And um ... whomever I vote her ... they do not rule me. They represent me, which may be where she can't get her head around things.
It's an interesting slip of tongue or turn of phrase ... Hillary's supporters believe the President is a ruler of people.
