So in my internet purusing, I'm coming across things that are popping up on my Google reader. I don't know if I've slipped into a quantinum or if by visiting the blogs Meryl has favorited I then favorite them too? I don't know.
Either way...I found this border collie lady who is a no-kill proponent.
She wrote this in December: Buy from a Breeder, Never Adopt.
Mavvy wouldn't be alive today by this standard. And the only regret I have is that I didn't take Mavvy's baby sister. Though, it has been pointed out, that had I done that, Mavvy might also have died, and not just her litter mate.
I appreciate the desire to stop bad shelters and pounds, etc. But punishing dogs like Mavvy by going to overpriced Breeders is not a solution to me either. And going through just as strenuous a screening process as some of the nose in the air shelters doesn't seem like good business either.
Hmm ... Pot, please meet Kettle.
"They" are telling me the opposite of what "you" are telling me and because it's "you" I should believe "you" and not "them?" What you're saying is that buying is the opposite of adoption, that buying is saving animals and adoption further kills them.
The truth is somewhere in the middle.
I see her anger at PETA, and feel it myself. But as the author is a breeder, she is a tad bit biased. And maybe a little self-promoting? I don't know. But Mavvy is a rescue. And I wouldn't trade her for a pure bred anything. Ever.

They tell you to "Adopt. Never Buy." as if buying is the opposite of adoption,
as if buying is immoral and adopting is moral, as if buying = killing and
shelter adoptions = saving. How obnoxious, how disgustingly manipulative and
grossly inaccurate.
