UPDATED: Obama and the Military
Gateway Pundit has more information. Interesting points that since this incident occurred in 2003 / 04, and Obama was in office, wouldn't he have been obligated to do something, if he believed it were true? The Pentagon has commented too.
It's funny, we don't have a nominee yet, but it's starting to play out like a national election. Obama v. McCain. What with the McCain / NYT 10 year old story that is very, very thin and all the blogging about Obama.

Captain's are in charge of company's. Lieutenants command platoons.
But over here at Jawa Report ... fact checkers at ABC discovered that the now Captain, was a Lieutenant at the time the story happened, so that's why he was leading a platoon. However, to cooroborate Obama's story, ABC asked the source. No one else. That's not really fact checking. That's hearing the same rumor and going "yup! It's true!"
Lawhawk also calls BS. Claiming also that Platoons would never be split up. He links to others.
This isn't a grenade Obama has landed on. No one that is already in his corner is going to be swayed by any of this. But I think it's a point of note that once again, someone who doesn't care or pay attention to the military is going to be in charge of it's destiny.
Also ... about the hand over the heart, pledge of allegiance thing. It's based on a true event. And as a military brat, those of us that have been around pomp and circumstance, as State Senators and Congressmen routinely are, know that when the anthem is played, you put your hand on your heart. On military bases they play the Star Spangled Banner at the movies. You put your hand on your heart.
He would know this. There's really not a good excuse, "sometimes he does and sometimes he doesn't." Patriotic people always do.*

*Not a reason to vote for him or against him. But definitely a reason to continue my suspicious about his character.
