Resurrection of Ghosts
As we know from an earlier post that I have had some data loss. I take so many pictures I have no idea what I'm missing. In the years before I had a digital camera, I took very few pictures, as it was kind of a luxury. Buying film, paying for development ... it would cost about $30.00, give or take, every time. And back then ... well $30.00 went a long way in feeding me and paying for things like metro rail.
Today, I have shipped of my beloved memories to a data recovery group ... OnTrack. They are the best at what they do (read: expensive) and they will tell me what (if anything) on my drive is recoverable. In two days time I will have an itemized list of what memories I can have back ... and those which are gone forever.
I struggled with the decision of what to do with the data loss for a while. Should I do as most do and chalk it to up to a bad back-up system, and just start over? Forgetting the files that are gone? Or should I put a price tag on my memories ... and try and get them back?
In the end, the "no-harm no-foul" approach was taken. The diagnosis and estimate portion of today's proceedings are free. They won't charge me a thing and will tell me what files they can save. After they send me that information, I have to make the decision.
Than it's back to the first question ... how much are my memories worth?
