Please ... Back Away from the Constitution
Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee wants to change the United States Constitution:
I have not heard the context of the above speech. But I have heard him talk about the "living, breathing constitution" and the above statement, in conjunction with that ... well it has me shivering a bit and asking him to please ... go away.
I am a Christian. I am a Conservative. But amending the Constitution to be in line with what Mike Huckabee views God's standards to be is a bit horrifying. More than a bit horrifying. And from what I've read of his record in Arkansas ... well he wasn't that conservative. And for all his conservative rhetoric lately, his record doesn't really match.
And worse, he's using social issues to drive and divide. Drive people to polls and divide the country on issues. No one is going to ban abortion. The country is so evenly split no one can get a majority. No one will get a marriage amendment on the Constitution for the same reason. No one is going to do that. And Mike Huckabee certainly wouldn't be the one that could.
He is not a fiscal conservative and has a tax and spend mentality. Things that drive me and real conservatives, to the polls. He's for bigger government control and he has an elitest air about him ... as he feels entitled to rule us all.
His statement about God's standards is simply more pandering, and to me shows how far he will go and how many lies he will tell. I don't remember reading about Arkansas's Constitution being changed to match God's standards. Maybe I missed that somewhere.
I'm not sad his money is running out.
"[Some of my opponents] do not want to change the Constitution, but I believe it's a lot easier to change the constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God, and that's what we need to do is to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards," Huckabee said, referring to the need for a constitutional human life amendment and an amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman.
