This was my grocery store

Walsh, 58,was in critical condition at Parkland Memorial Hospital, where she was listed under a pseudonym after being beaten and robbed Friday in the parking lot of a North Dallas grocery store.

I bought all my groceries at this Tom Thumb when we lived in the apartment. And Lewis's office is on the same block. She was shopping during the middle of the day, and was beaten so badly that now, 2 days later, she is still in an ICU and barely alive. It's an affluent area, not a bad place at all. I'm sure there's crime there, off and on, but for the most part ... I'd call it a safe place. It's a very busy intersection ... lots of traffic. But Barnes and Noble used to be in that shopping center! (As if a B&N means the locale must be safe!)

I just don't like it when things like this happen so close to home. It's almost like you become one of "those people," who believe bad things happen some place else, until you hear about it in your own backyard.

We need to be careful, all of us. Always be aware of your surroundings.

It's funny, you know that when a crime happens the participants (both victim and criminal) are always someone's friend, someone's daughter, someone's husband, etc.--but until it actually is in your neighborhood you don't *really know*.
