Sports: Baseball Chaos, and NFL On it's 3rd Little Pig
Essentially, this like announcing your engagment at someone else's wedding. People no likey.
No one is quite certain whether A-Rod was told to make the announcement than by his uber powerful agent Scott Boras, or if he made the misstep himself. My money is on both. "I'm Alex Rodriguez, I am way more important than a World Series no one is watching." That combined with Boras' one ego and need for publicity (they certainly go it) ... well they made the decision.
So he wanted to leave New York. His decision to opt out is costing $21M that the Yankees stood to recoup from the Rangers after he fullfilled his contract. And, well he really made the Yankees mad. He has said for a very long time that he would finish his career in pinstripes. He said he wouldn't leave. Then he pretty much spit in their eye.
So Boras put the starting point for negotiations at $350M. That's a ridiculous amount of money. And no team outside of New York is going to pay that. Period. And apprently A-Rod and Boras have figured that out. No offers came in. Dodgers, nope. Red Sox, nope. Mets, nope.
The only team that will talk to him ... the Yankees. And now they have a bargaining chip - "A-Rod, looks like you ain't so hot after all." His agent has been kicked out of the negotiating, A-Rod's in there by himself. And his price is dropping. Right now the offer is an astronomical $275M.
Ridiculous. And he'll ask for more. This player that think's he's so awesome, that has never been to the World Series, that is lackluster in the post season. Funny article HERE.
Also, I took a poll over at ESPN.com about disliking A-Rod. I liked these results:
3) Who do you dislike more?
67.4% Barry Bonds
20.0% Rodriguez
12.6% I like them both
That is so right on ... I dislike Barry Bonds (Cheater! Cheater! Asterisk! Cheater!) oh so much more than greedy A Rod. There are so many others like A Rod (Clemens, Beltran, etc.) that his behavior has become acceptable. The only difference between A Rod and the others, is he's in some way convinced the Rangers in the past (idiots) and the Yankees most recently that he's worth more than any other baseball player out there.
Achem. He is so, so, so not. I don't care if he does go to the Hall of Fame on his first ballot. I don't care if he does pass Barry Bonds and Hank Aaron for the homerun record. He. Is. Not. Worth. $350M. No baseball player is.
In other baseball news ... the Astros traded Brad Lidge to the Phillies. Included in the trade is Bruntlett, outfielder, who wasn't all that great anyway. So no loss there.
If the trade is enough to shake the dust off Lidge and get his head right, I'm not going to enjoy playing against him. We got three players for the trade, and Ed Wade (new GM) thinks its a good thing.
I'm sad about baseball next year. No more Craig Biggio. :( He is my hero, and I miss him already. And I miss Phil Garner, even though he and Purpura were doing a terrible job. Baseball will be a mess for me next year ... but maybe the changes will make the 'Stros competitive again.
Football. Ricky Williams was re-instated to the NFL after getting out of rehab. This is his 3rd time. The man is a spoiled child. And he shouldn't have been given a 3rd chance. He'll blow this chance too because smoking pot is more important to him than his career.
Cowboys look good. My predicition ... Cowboys v. Patriots in the Superbowl. Get 'em Tony!
