Pushing Daisies

The promotional spots for Pushing Daisies have one thing that makes them stand out from anything I've ever seen.
Jim Dale does the voice over.
Who is Jim Dale you ask? He is the voice of Harry Potter. He read for the audio books for all 7 stories, and he was fantastic.
That he is working on Pushing Daisies is enough right there to recommend the show to me. So I DVR'd it and watched it commercial free (or at least commercial fast forward) last night.
It's great. It's really great. It's beautiful to look at (especially in HD) and the cast is really wonderful. The beginning starts with our lead character, Dan the Pie Man (I kid you not) learning about his powers as a child. His dog (the Golden pictured above) gets hit by a truck. Dan touches the animal and he springs back to life. He later learns through a series of unfortunate events (another story it reminds me of) that one touch equals life, second touch equals death. So Dan can never pet his dog.
He gets involved with a private investigator that learns of Dan's powers and thinks they can make a good living solving murder cases by simply asking the murder victims who killed them. His first case involved a man who was attached by a dog (a Chow) and the dog now was facing execution! The dog's name was Cantaloupe. They save the dog, there's a great sequence of the dog running free from the pound ...
And Jim Dale does all the voice over. It's wonderful. It's quirky. It's right up my alley.
But we need to get it up a few more people's alley's in order for it to make it. Critics wise, everyone loves it. But can it compete in the sexual comedy, police crime hospital drama of prime time television?
We'll see. I certainly hope so. Here's a review from SFGate. He says what I fear ... that the wonderful newness and originality of this series may be it's downfall. Please watch! Or at least TIVO it. I love the whole thing!
