I love the United States Constitution

Because scary, scary, scary horrible things like what's happening in Russia are not happening here.

In January of 2009, President Bush will be gone. He will do a book tour somewhere and speak at college campuses. He'll live in Crawford, Texas and the United States will have a new President.

In Russia, as President Putin prepares for his term to be over, he is lining up his ducks. He has appointed a lame, ineffectual puppet to replace him while promising to still be working for Russia behind the scenes. Today I read that he has announced his candidace to run for Prime Minister. A position which, if he gets it, puts him second in line to become President, should something happen to Viktor Zubkov, the puppet - er, Presidential hopeful.

President Putin is a scary, scary man. Reporters have died mysteriously, that other guy died from radiation poisoning. None of which can be laid at Putin's door, yet all of which people who have left the country say would not have happened without his knowledge.

And the worst of all, Iran. I read this previously somewhere else - I can't remember where - but why does little old Iran have such gumption to stand up to the worlds super powers? Why can he stand bravely against them? Maybe secretly he already has his nukes. Or maybe he's got support from Russia.

Maybe. I'm not a conspiracy theorist usually ... but I remember old tales of the USSR and I see strange things happening. I see Putin blasting the United States for a missile defense plan that the EU already supports. I see him saying strange things at summitting meetings about control and power. And I see him trying to find ways to keep his Presidency.

He can return to that post, he just can't run a third time. He can leave and come back.

Or he can become Prime Minister, run the country from the sidelines and then run for the Presidency next time.

Or worse ... if I were Zubkov, I'd sleep with one eye open.
