Did He? Or Didn't He?

Harry Ried introduced a measure in the Senate today calling for the denouncement of Rush Limbaugh for a bunch of stuff. Here is quotes from him on the Senate floor:

Last week, Rush Limbaugh went way over the line, way over the line. While I respect his right to say anything he likes, his unpatriotic comments I cannot ignore. During his show last Wednesday, Limbaugh was engaged in one of his typical rants. This one was unremarkable, indistinguishable from his usual drivel, which has been steadily losing listeners for years, [sic] until he crossed that line by calling our men and women in uniform who oppose the war in Iraq, and I quote, "phony soldiers." [sic] This comment was so beyond the pale of decency, and we can't leave it alone. And yet he followed it up with denials and an attack on Congressman Jack Murtha, who was a 37-year active member of the Marine Corps, combat veteran.

That came from Rush Limbaugh's website but I'm looking for actual video.

The Hill has a short story about the letter and action the Dems are taking.

So the Dems say that Rush Limbaugh called soldiers who oppose the war "phony soldiers." What he actually was talking about was Jesse MacBeth, whom if you don't know about him than ... well really just continue watching Headline News and believing everything your television tells you.

The quote in question is here:

RUSH ARCHIVE: It's not possible intellectually to follow these people.

CALLER: No, it's not. And what's really funny is they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and spout to the media.

RUSH: The phony soldiers.

Eh ... I didn't hear it. I didn't hear the whole broadcast. At the top of the hour did he say they would be discussing soldiers who lie about serving in Iraq and then tell more tales to any newspaper / television station that will listen? I don't know. I don't care. I really feel like this is a reaction to the backlash they felt when the right called for them to denounce MoveOn.Org for the General Betray Us ads.

And it's really hard for me to take Senator Reid seriously when talking about denouncing anything anyone says. This is the same guy that however many months ago said that the war in Iraq was already lost.

How many soldiers heard that Senator Reid? And where was your outrage then? Where were the calls for you to lose your job?

If Rush Limbaugh said something stupid -- well in my mind it wouldn't be the first time. You won't hear that anywhere or read that anywhere in the Right-O-Sphere as they have circled the wagons around their leader.

But the problem I have is they take two lines from a 4 hour broadcast and expect me to believe their interpretation of events. I didn't think Don Imus was that big a deal, and I don't think this is that big a deal.

Can someone please talk about something else?
