130 days of tragedy
I have not paid a lot of attention to the McCann abduction case. It happened on May 3rd, and it was in the lead up to the release of Deathly Hallows and JKR gave them something like $2M to help in their search. Which is the reason I paid attention to it.
Last week, investigators in Portugal named the mother, Kate McCann a suspect in the case. This week, charges of manslaughter (or the Portugese equivalent) are expected. The evidence out of Portugal (with help from British crime dogs) is blood found in a rental car the McCann's used 25 days after Madeleine (their missing daughter) disappeared.
I've seen the tape of Kate McCann pleading for her daughter's life. She's professional and stoic. I don't think any factual evidence can be gleaned ... wait a second ... I know that no factual evidence can be taken from her television appearances.
But I also know that it won't help her in the court of public opinion.
And one must wonder ... with such a high profile case (and the McCann's did everything they could to make it so) are the Portugese authorities grasping at straws in an effort to close it? Are they out of leads so they are left with the only other option ... the last person to know of Madeliene's whereabouts was her mother. And they claim the blood in the car is Madeliene's. How do they explain that?
I don't like these stories. I don't even like writing down my thoughts about these stories. It makes it all too real and you can't take it back. Sometimes miracles happen ... I will be praying for a miracle. I will be praying that the mommy didn't hurt her baby girl ... and that the baby girl is returned to her family. That is the proper order of things. Baby girls belong with their mommies.
