Teenage Rant

So perusing MSN today as I close out my work ...

I come across this article: Quit complaining — it may make you feel worse.

Not to be too sensitive or anything ... but the picture along with the article, is two women talking. So I kinda felt like this whole article was going to be gender biased. But, since men typically don't talk about their problems, it probably really is an issue that effects women more than men.

Right off the bat, I like this part:
A recent study found that teenage girls who vented to each other about their problems, from boy trouble to social slights, were more likely to develop depression and anxiety — and the same is likely true for adult women, says Amanda Rose, the author of the study.

Was this when comapred to young girls that don't vent? Or girls that vent as compared to what? Because, from what I remember, all teenage girls are prone to anxiety and bouts of melancholy.

Sometimes I wonder why I read MSN at all. Be more like boys the article tells me. Well yes, sure, but isn't the converse also that men should strive to be more conversational about their feelings / problems? Isn't the real answer somewhere in the middle?

And the real problem isn't the talking - it's the lack of perspective. Which is why teenagers are often more inclined to talk about the same thing over and over again. They don't have any perspective. To them, their entire life's happiness is all wrapped up in that boy or that test or that traffic ticket. Life is over because of that one bad experience. It's all they think about. They (and I am drawing on my own experience as a teenager for this - yes) can't not talk about it. It's their entire world! And you just don't understand how truly, truly, amazingly, important it is!

Hahaha - sorry, mom. At least I moved out. :)
