Michael Vick will plead guilty

Which isn't really surprising. His buddies had turned on him. If he went to trial he would have done his full sentence. He's lucky they kept the deal on the table. He may be able to salvage his career. May, be able to salvage.

While he is facing 5 years in prison and $250,000 in fines (I believe per charge) because he's pleading out, he'll probably pay a ton of money and spend less than a year in prison. Maybe only missing this season, and at worse, this season and next.

Depending on how the NFL treats it.

With Pete Rose out of the hall of fame for his crimes (though they were baseball related crimes) you have to wonder what the NFL is going to do. I kind of think dog fighting is a bigger deal, but I wasn't around when Pete Rose was doing his thing.

According to CNN - prosecuters offered him 18 to 36 months in jail. Like I said at worst he misses this season and next (he won't see a full 36 - no chance). The Falcon's will probably never take him back. I don't know what others will do. I'd like to assume no one would want him. But ... never say never.

NFL.com is reporting the deal requires 10 to 12 months. Wonder who's right. NFL.com I'd wager. He took a deal to salvage his career and life. I wonder if he also made a deal with the NFL?

The other thing is ... his family is so messed up. His brother has been in and out of trouble and has effectively ruined his own career. He was dismissed from the VA Tech team in 2006 for having too many traffic tickets. But it happened right after he was "arrested on firearms charges." They were later dropped after he plead guilty to disorderly conduct. He was also sued by a former girlfriend for around $6M, which didn't help matters.

He was kicked out of VA Tech, as mentioned, and then drafted by the Miami Dolphins. He was subsequently cut, then a day later resigned to their practice squad. This was September 2006. He played in one game during the '06 season. In May of this year, he was cut for good. I'm not getting a clear reason as to why. Maybe he wasn't playing that well.

Or maybe they didn't want to deal with the mess.

There is no love lost for me and Michael Vick. Lewis liked him, said he was a WR that could play quarterback and was really amazing. Having him on your team was like "cheating." If he couldn't find someone to throw to, he just ran for 20 yards. Or something like that.

Which is the saddest part of all - these two men, Michael and Marcus, were given extraordinary athletic abilities. And they've squandered them.

Michael deserves every ounce of his prison sentence. And if there is any real justice, his prison cell will be lined with the pictures of the animals he helped mutilate, torture, and kill.
