Love Locks

I did it. I hadn't really planned to do it today. I had thought I'd wait till the spring. Have long hair for a while ... before I had kids. Kids like pulling on long hair. I think that's why mom's cut their hair short when they have babies. That and it stays out of the way better, maybe.

I'm still sort of in shock. I have had long hair all my life! It took me 2.5 years to grow the ten inches I needed. I knew I had them, I've been measuring. I have a measuring tape that you use for measuring fabric. I'd hold it up to my hair before I got in the shower in the morning and measure from my chin down. It said 10 inches just a few weeks ago.

And it's so hot with long hair in the summer! So I made the appointment. And I thought about it, and I thought ... I'll keep it long. Just an inch or two off the bottom, re-layer it. Cut it in the spring. Another year. But then I went in. And she said I should cut it. And we talked about it. And I took the plunge.

It's just hair. I can grow it back. So I did it. And this is why I did it. Locks of Love is an organization that makes natural wigs for children who lose their hair due to illness.

At a dinner party in Boston, a co-worker's friend arrived with really short hair. She had just donated her hair to locks of love. I really liked the idea.

So I got my hair cut for the last time the day I got engaged. I didn't really plan it that way. I just cut it short and the last of the dyed parts were almost gone and it was easier and convenient to grow it out.

It's just hair. It grows all the time.

I'm still in shock. But I like to think they can use my hair for something wonderful.

You are my hero! I've been trying to get to that 10 inches forever now--still just a few short...well unless I shaved my head, that is, but I'm not quite there yet.

It looks cute though, and just think about those extra few minutes you can now sleep in in the mornings.
