I'm Buying this book ... Today.

Michelle Malkin is talking about this NYT best seller today ... but it was the Today Show interview that got me hooked.

At one point Matt Laeur asks him if he has survivors guilt. And he says,

"I died up there on that mountain too, sir. I left a piece of my soul up there and there's not a day that goes by that I don't think about it."

The title of the book is Lone Survivor and it's the story of four Seals who were in Afghanistan doing re-con when they came across two (three?) goat herders. Afraid of the rules of engagement (the two men weren't armed) they voted and they let the men live. Within 30 to 45 minutes they were attacked by 80 to 100 Taliban, and his three comrades were killed, and the rescue group sent to get them (16 soldiers) were killed.

When asked if he regretted his vote, Luttrell said:

"It'd be worth the time in prison if my buddies were still with me today."

Another interview with Breitbart. This one is better because she lets him talk versus Matt Laeur who likes the sound of his own voice more than his subjects. He's full of conviction and pride, and sorrow.

Talking about the crew that came in to save them:

"If we called again, even if they knew they were flying to their deaths, if there was a slight chance they could get to us, they would go. That's just the way we are. You call, we show up."

The interviewer asks him if he's worried about how the book will be recieved. He says its the truth, and that's just how he is. He's from Texas.

Hoo-rah.

It is our patriotic duty to read this book and learn about this hero, and the heros that are lost. Per the NYT article:

Mr. Luttrell said that his main goal was to tell the story of his comrades who did not make it out alive. “Now I think the American public knows who they are, and now they are forever immortalized,” said Mr. Luttrell, who added that he has set up a trust with all the proceeds from the book to help the families of the dead and to donate to military charities. “Their memory will never die out, and that’s what I wanted.”
