Politics Today
John McCain is still hemorrhaging. There are several rumors that one of the guys was fired. But it appears they just abandoned a sinking ship. Terry Nelson (Campaign Manager) and John Weaver (Chief Political Strategist) left. They were two of four main guys over there. The deput campaign manager and the political director left after Nelson and Weaver announced their resignation.
Good news for McCain ... that's four less people he has to pay out of his paltry $2M.
I've read a couple things that just seem completely ridiculous. Including this:
That's not quite what happened, in my ever so humble opinion. McCain supported the War on Terror, but he did a bunch of other stupid things. Most recently, that ridiculous immigration bill that motivated a nation to slam their Senators with phone calls, emails and letters. The base left him after that. Some had started to slip slide away long before, because for the past 8 years he's been a bitter old man. He lost the nomination in 2000, due to either money raising issues or bitter ugliness while campaigning. Much like Al Gore, he has not gotten over it. Unlike Al Gore, he hides it well.
Except when he's voting. And he held a grudge against the Air Force the Darlene Druyun affair. It was in UN-fair. Anyway - he put the nail in his own coffin by spitting in his bases eye. You can say all you want that the immigration bill was well thought out and it wasn't amnesty blah blah blah but the American people know better.
And the final stupid thing he did. He told bloggers and radio hosts that they were bigots. Or at least, he didn't stand up and say no they weren't. He and Trent Lott have cooked their own goose. Let them eat what they have made.
In other politics ... Cindy Sheehan has decided to take another trek to Washington D.C. to call for the impeachment of the President. If Nancy Pelosi does not do this, Cindy Sheehan is threatening to run against her in 2008.
Is Nancy scared? Cause um ... I don't think so.
One thing Cindy does get right is this statement: "I know what Californians care about...They don't care about the ruling power elite."
She does not know everything that Californians care about, but most Americans I'd wager are sick to death of the elitists that are running things up there. Do as I say not as I do, you poor poor little people, little civilians, you don't know what you need. Let Papa Government take care of everything.
BLAH.
But that having been said ... Cindy doesn't stand a window treatment in Antartica of winning. And I really, really doubt that Nancy is concerned. With every passing minute, she becomes increasingly irrelevent.
But you know what this is? She got a taste of fame, got a taste of power, got a taste of celebrity ... and she can not give it up. She wants more. No matter how ridiculous it makes her. Like Britney Spears on a Red Bull kick she's going to make herself look tired, crazy, and more and more out of touch with the main stream.
More power to you Cindy. Here's your shovel.

McCain's fortunes soured considerably this year as he embraced President
Bush's troop increase for the Iraq war, an unpopular conflict with the public
but one supported by most Republicans, and a bipartisan immigration bill that
has divided the GOP.
Over the past six months, his donors and supporters were turned off by
what they viewed as McCain embracing the policies of a lame-duck president with
abysmal approval ratings. That caused McCain's polling and fundraising to
suffer.
