Is it so unreasonable?

Is it? Is it so unreasonable to ask men and women to remain faithful to one person? Is it? I really want to know. Because the things that we strive for in our own lives are not what's being reflected back at us from Washington.

Why? Is every member of our society so base?

And not even a loving relationship or affair based on attraction, respect or any kind of love; instead it is a sordid, disgusting, dirty, medically disasterous encounter with a professional call girl.

Are you kidding me?

Explain this to me, people of the world. I'm a niave person who has a strict code of conduct that I follow. Not everyone believes as I do. If they did ... well we'd all be crazy so it's a good thing there aren't too many of me. But how in the world ... why do you promise? What does your word mean after you break your vow?

Really - I want to know what promises mean.

How can you (read: Vitter) stand there on a pulpit and talk to us of family values and the morals of America and at the same time not be able to control your own urges? The world does not exist in a vaccum. You can not and should not categorize your life so completely that you think what you do immorally off the clock has no impact on your attempt at morality on the clock.

I really am not surprised. I'm not. I read the article and thought, eh, you knew it was coming when that DC Madame decided to talk. What does surprise me is the number of people that are saying if he apologizes he can keep his office.

What does that say about us? Really ... what does it say about us that we have Senators, Governors, Presidents that are having affairs that we know about and we shrug our shoulders and think "he's human."

Yes, he's human. The same as I am human. The same as my father is human. The same as my grandfather is human. You do not see these human men running amock with prostitutes while their wives are home. Why has the standard for our leaders gotten so low that we don't even hold a ruler up any more? What is becoming of us?

This is not a punishable offense. He should not be "impeached" or whatever happens to Senators. But he should not make it past the electorate again. He's a hypocrit of the highest order.

But my question ... is it really too much to ask a man and a woman to remain faithful? Is it really so difficult? What do the vows mean then? Should we abolish them? All have civil ceremonies that say "I promise to love you and cherish you until such a time that I do not."

And then sign on the dotted line of the prenuptial agreement so everyone leaves with what they started with.

Celebrities and our leadership make marriage further and further obsolete every day with their antics and their infedelity. I do not understand. They are so far removed from the morals and the life that I lead ... and yet they are leading me?

I hear about these things and it makes me irritated. Relax, I hear people say, it's just one man. He's human. These things happen.

Why do these things happen?

To add even more insult Vitter said this:
"Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in
confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my
discussion of the matter there —with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep
and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way," he
wrote.

Oh yes I'm sure. Several years ago. I've read elsewhere that he was accused of having an ongoing relationship with a "professional" while he was running for Governor of Lousiana. It seems to me that it's less of a one time deal and more of an all the time deal.

I don't understand. I never will. One man with one woman, till death do you part. This is the covenant of marriage as he entered into it. And if he breaks his promise to the woman he's supposed to love and cherish more than any other ... what do his promises to his constituents - perfect strangers - count for?
