Part of the Game

My husband and I have not dissected this yet. It's too soon after the break-up to speak rationally. I'm still in shock. I guess part of me believed that when I saw him pitching to our minor leaguers in March that he'd be back in some form to support the Astros. But to no avail.

Lewis believes that a bidding war between the top 3 (paying) teams in baseball took place and the Astros didn't want much of it. So they didn't go as high as the Yanks did. But who can go as high as the Yanks do? And who wants to?

Houston is a growing baseball town. In recent years the Astros have been so successful as to make their city line up behind them. But Roger ...

Well I believe all the garbage. I believed he wanted to play in his hometown. I believed he wanted to retire there. I believed he wanted to bring a title to Houston.

And maybe he did ... maybe the managers didn't want to spend enough to bring a title home. I don't know.

I do know that Hunter Pence is a rookie that's looking like a powerful hitter and a good fielder. I hope he keeps up the enthusiasm. I do know that Biggio is 40 hits away from 3,000. And he's my favorite baseball player ever and one of my heroes, someone I would let my kids look up to. I know that Oswalt is a great pitcher that's going to be a hall of famer ... I just know it. And that the trade of Willy T makes me sad. That "Clutch" Burke will do his part to bring us to the pennent. And Berkman and Lee are good batters.

The Astros don't need Clemens and his half season antics to win. We never did.

It was Clemens that went on and on about how much he needed the Astros. How much he wanted to help the Astros. When he announced he had to make a decision between Yankee, Red Sox and Astros ... part of me knew we weren't going to make it. We don't have the money those other teams do. And Andy Pettite had already moved. If we had kept him ... we stood a chance. But as soon as Andy left I had a feeling that Clemens would move on too. The only thing keeping him in Houston was Coby, who plays on our minor team. But even his son wasn't a big enough reason to stay.

So maybe he followed the money. Maybe he followed the fame. Either way ... baseball is about wins, losses, trades and acqusitions. It's all just part of the game.

Outside of New York, Eveyone Hates Roger Clemens.

Roger Clemens never found us all that interesting.
