More Cuba

This is from an April NY Post about a teacher who illegally took 12 HS kids to Cuba for Spring break. Mostly blah from the principal about how "He denied approval," and it was an "independent trip." And yet, the activity was posted on the school website complete with sign up and more information. The wary travelers face up to $65,000 in fines.

Now my husband would say, "Why can't we go to Cuba again?" But I'm not here to debate that. What I'm here for, is this quote:

The Rev. Earl Kooperkamp, pastor at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Harlem, said he was unclear on the travel restrictions to Cuba but allowed his son to go because he and his wife felt the experience would be educational.

He added that he was unaware that the students got into hot water at customs but that he was not overly concerned with the consequences.

"It concerns me more that we have a blockade on Cuba that's lasted more than 40 years," Kooperkamp said.

Let's set the Rev up for father of the year shall we? As he was "unaware" that his minor son had gotten into trouble while trying to re-enter his country of origin. I'm thinking the Rev needs to sit down with his kiddo and see what else it is that he's "unaware" of. And since he's not worried about the consequences, I wonder what kind of salary he's getting at the church that he has $65,000 around to submit to the government on behalf of his child.

And he's more concerned about the blockade than his son?
