Walter Reed
What do I think about this Walter Reed thing?
Duh??
How long have vets complained about deplorable conditions at VA hospitals? A very, very, very long time. They have old equipment, delapated buildings (don't believe me? Look for a VA hospital in your area and drive by it) and small staffs. Why would you be a doctor for the VA making government salaries when you could have a private practice and actually pay off your med school bills?
My biggest issue here? The hypocrisy of Washington. Who is in control of the Army's budgets? Who determines what part of the budget goes to what and how much they can spend on certain items?
Congress. Watching those guys acting all shocked about conditions on one day while on previous days discussing cutting military funding makes me want to throw up in someones cereal. Preferably a congressmans.
Do they honestly think that all the money they fund to the military goes to tanks and guns? The more money they cut, the less money the military has to spend on necessities like ... oh I don't know ... veterans benefits and health care.
Are the conditions disgusting ... absolutely, and they should be fixed immediately. Should have been fixed before. Is it isolated to Walter Reed? No. Do I think the "investigative report" was politically motivated? Yes.
I want to see the investigative report into the housing conditions of our airmen and barracks. Or any of the other military base houses we lived in. Most of them were okay. I have pretty fond memories. But the houses we lived in on Edwards had asbestos in the walls which we were told to "not mess with" and we'd be fine. They were considered sub standard by community standards and would not be offered to lower income housing in the nearby areas. And believe me, no one I know would be fighting to move into them.
But it's hypocrisy and political pandering to get all up in arms and form committees now investigating poor conditions at VA hospitals. Instead of forming committees, throw money at the problem and let them rebuild the facilities and hire new people. I find it difficult to believe that this is all brand new. It's not like paint starts chipping over night. Or that facilities are understaffed one day and not the next.
Bottom line ... our veterans deserve more, 100% more. But as long as fat cat beaurocrats are at the top trying to get a soundbyte on Headline News and care more about hearing themselves talk then the men and women in uniform, I have little hope of conditions actually improving. Especially nationwide.
P.S. - wanna see what socialized medicine looks like? Visit Walter Reeds Out Patient Facilities. You think red tape keeps people from getting claims handled now, with only military members under the governments thumb, wait till the nation is there, sitting idly by, wondering when they can get healed.
My hope? That instead of wasting more tax payer time and money on stupid committees that congress will use that money and hire a contractor to renovate Walter Reed. Buy new equipment, pay larger salaries. Do something that will actually help the situation, versus just talking about. Our military deserves it. But if you think this is an isolated, only happening now, incident, you are sadly mistaken. And I suggest you drive by your local VA.
These conditions have been and still are deplorable. The people who deserve the best care are stuck with government stupidity, and get the worst. And what was that poll just out? Something like over half the country wants the government to provide them health care.
I'm on the other half ... because no thanks.
And P.S. - Ann Coulter is an idiot.
