She has to protect herself, her family
This ridiculous non-scandal, the firing of 8 Federal attorney's who's contracts were up anyway, makes me want to throw my television away and wish the media a fond farewell.
They've issued subpeonas to White House aids involved, and one fine lady, Monica Goodling, has consulted her attorney who has advised her to plead the fifth.
I feel for this woman. She is going to be burned at the stake for a non-crime, and she's trying to avoid going to prison ala Scooter Libby for doing nothing criminal but being accused of perjury when recounting facts from months ago. The media and congress want Karl Rove so bad they can taste it, and they will sacrifice anyone to get there.
I wish there was something I could do about this. Make it stop some how. I wish I could shut Rosie O. up and make her realize that Iran is a bunch of bullies who kidnapped 15 British Sailors for no good reason. I wish she would go away. I wish the 24 hour news cycle was more committed to truth than agendas.
The whole thing makes me crazy. Monica Goodling is being lambasted in the court of the media for "hiding what she did." Well she did nothing criminal. But the partisans are out and they want a shake up so bad they'll hurt her and her family to get it. Instinct is to protect yourself. Nothing protects us so much as the constitution. Or so we think ... She will be pulled in to testify, they will say she can't use the 5th to protect "others" (read: Karl Rove) and she will be indicted for perjury.
If not her, someone else. They (the allusive "they") will keep this up until Fall of 2008. At which point I will vote my little heart out and pray for more civilized interactions between people that fundementally disagree, but still should be united as human beings and Americans. I don't know what kind of person Monica Goodling is, but she is someones daughter, sister, mother, or wife or all of the above. I pray for her and her family. May God guide her through this tough time.
