Quit Foreign Child Shopping!
Normally, I'm all about adoption. Children who are abandoned for whatever reason need good homes. So I'm all for adoption. Yeah adoption. Ra Ra adoption.
But this baby shopping, quickie foreign adoption thing has got to stop.
Angelina Jolie is adopting a 3.5 year old from Vietnam. She should be able to take him home within a few weeks, pending the paperwork is approved fast enough. And since she's probably greased the wheels to lightning speeds with her hard earned cash, I'm sure she'll have him before Easter. They have the 5 year old from Cambodia, the 2 year old from Ethiopia, and the very own fruit of their looms.
I love that they want to adopt. Great. I love that they aren't limited to only wanting babies of their own race.
But why not adopt American children? American minority children need homes just as badly as Vietnamese children. Or Cambodian children. Or Ethiopian children.
My only assumption is that adopting a foreign child from a third world country is easier than adopting from an American agency. We probably have more rules and it would probably take longer. Right wrong or indifferent, it looks to me that every time Angelina goes on vacation, we can expect her to bring home a wee one with her. Just another souvenir...
