Dick Cheney Assasination Attempt
I've been perusing blogs and there's a bunch of people cheering at the news that he was targeted and crying because they missed.
Let me be clear. The death of any American leader -- Vice President, President, Secretary of State, of any party affiliation, Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Independent -- caused by assasination on home or foreign soil would have a drastic affect on all of us here at home. No matter how much hatred lives in the hearts of their opposition.
This is why our leaders, retired and currently, have secret service protection. Their deaths would be catastrophic to both the economy and the lives of our countries citizens. Do we think JFK was beloved by all before his murder? Not so much. Bill Clinton, a former President, if anything happened to him in such a way the country would be devestated, even the Conservatives who stood against him.
My heart and prayers go out to everyone today. Especially to the families of the soldiers involved. I've read conflicting reports on the death toll, as low as 3 and as high as 23. This article from Time Magazine says 14 total with 2 American soldiers being killed. Many more are injured. Keep them all in your prayers.
