Nothing But Love For You Tony!

For those of you that don't know, the Cowboys played in the wild card playoff on Saturday against the Seattle Seahawks. Now, if you already know this, than you know what I'm about to talk about. If you didn't know this, and didn't watch, and live under a rock ... I'll explain.

They played hard. T.O. was a non-factor. Mostly because he didn't get thrown to. He had five attempts and two catches. He didn't drop any, so that's good. But for the most part this game wasn't about him.

The big failure on the Cowboys side (I think) was Terry Glen. Glen had a bunch of missteps in the first half. He dropped a ball, fumbled, bunch of stuff. He was not an A-lister.

Romo threw like 3 interceptions. Not his best. The line was pretty good, they blocked when they had to and I'm not remembering any big sacks on Romo.

But the second half was a nightmare.

There was the touchdown - no it's a fumble - no its a touchdown - no it's a safety late in the 4th. What could have been 7 points turned into 2 with the Seahawks getting the ball back. They ran it up the field and got another 7. So what could have been just 7, or just 2, turned into 9. They (seahawks) were now up by one I think.

So all it would take was as field goal. Dallas moved the ball up the field got into position and a bad call on Witten lost us the first down on 3rd and we had to go for the field goal.

Romo comes out to the field ready to hold the ball. The ball is snapped, he fumbles it, badly, and then attempts to run it in after his failure to hold for the kick. He's stopped just short of the first down.

There's something like 80 seconds left on the clock. The Seahawks get the ball back and wisely kneel it. Dallas lost, by 1 point.

And Romo is taking the fall for the terrible, terrible fumble at a huge point in the game. You can see in the picture it just slips from his fingers.
So a player that brought us to the playoffs is now the reason we are out of it. It's kind of symmetrical actually.

During the post game, Romo was so emotional. The reporters are saying when they approached him at his locker he appeared to have been crying. All the pressure of a very, very critical fan base has been on this rookie quarterback since he took over QB duties in October. How he can be expected to shoulder the burden of an entire team is beyond me.

His fumble cost us the game at that point. But Glen's inability to catch a ball in the first half cost us points that could have given us a more comfortable lead. The Defense, I feel (and I'm a layman) did their job. They held the Seahawks behind us and they made some awesome plays to give us turnovers. And Miles Austin of special teams had an awesome kick return for a touchdown. He was one happy kid watching himself score on the big screen.

That moment right there is why people watch football.

Jennifer Engle, of the Little Ball of Hate show on ESPN radio here in Dallas, is one of my favorite sports commentators. Every time I hear her show I think ... "I could do that. I could be a sports announcer." Lewis would love it. I'd get good seats to everything. And since I'm forced to watch and learn all of this it'd be a great outlet for all this new knowledge. But anyway ...

Jennifer has an article in the Fort Worth Star Telegram. She goes over just about everything ... but the interesting things are that Jerry Jones is wondering why the home team let a brand new ball out onto the field. They are supposed to provide good balls that have been worn in and used. The one that Romo had to hold was brand new and slippery. No excuse ... but it is interesting. And I wouldn't doubt it if the home team did give us a bad ball just for an advantage. Nothing'll come of this accusation, but it is interesting. I also think a lot of the calls were bogus. There were what seemed to be a bunch of holding calls on Dallas, and nothing called on Seattle. Home cooking, perhaps? It does happen. We were just on the unlucky end of it I guess.

Jennifer also says T.O. has "penguin hands." HAHAHA. She's hillarious.

Here's what I hope for next year:
I hope Parcel's makes it his final year and makes a decision early on that he's going to play like he wants to go to the post season the whole time. The 4 losses that Dallas had prior to the Seahawks game were ridiculous. And I blame coaching. Anyone could see that those teams had our number, and the coaches should have made some adjustments. I didn't see any. But again, I'm a layman.

I hope - KNOW - that Romo will be back. He saved our season. He got us the winning record that gave us a playoff birth to begin with. You can not punish him for a mistake like a fumble when so much of his season has been really good. Plus, it's his first year as QB. And I don't care that Parcel's threw him under the bus with his whole "He's been in the league 4 years" nonesense. Romo had not started one game in those 4 years, not till this year. This was his first season and he's a rookie quarterback. Hasselback (I think) has been a starter for 2 years. That's a lot of wisdom that Romo just doesn't have yet. So Romo will be back. And he will get us further next year.

T.O. I dispise the guy, but if he goes through training camp and gets his head on straight, I might stomach watching him in a blue and white jersey next year. I think if he trains with Romo through the summer and gets a rhythm with the other guys (a rhythm he didn't have because he skipped a ton of practice) he could be an all-star. But the rumor is he'll be gone is Parcel's stays. So it's all about Jerry at this point. Who does Jerry think will be better for the franchise. A winning coach? Or a winning but loud mouthed, annoying, lightning rod wide reciever who sometimes makes big plays? Only time will tell.

It's a long post-season, and it will be a really long one for Romo. He will see that play every night in his dreams. But I think I'll send him a letter. A letter telling him that it's not his fault we lost. Yes, he fumbled the ball and lost us those three points. But the game was lost before that by poor plays from the other guys. It shouldn't have come down to 3 points.

Tony, take your licks, practice hard, and be ready next season. Because I really want to see us whoop up on the Eagles. And thank you for getting us to the playoffs this year ... the first time in like 8 years or something. Thanks Tony for a great season. Hope to see you next year!
