My Heart Breaks

2nd Lietuenant Mark Daily was killed in Iraq on January 16th. He was 23 years old.

I only know this because I visited Michelle Malkin's page today, and she has a post about what his reasons for going into Iraq were. He wrote his reasoning on his myspace page (it's taking over the world) and it's so eloquently written. He was a great wordsmith.

An excerpt:
In the time it took for you to read this explanation, innocent people your age have suffered under the crushing misery of tyranny. Every tool of philosophical advancement and communication that we use to develop our opinions about this war are denied to countless human beings on this planet, many of whom live under the regimes that have, in my opinion, been legitimately targeted for destruction. Some have allowed their resentment of the President to stir silent applause for setbacks in Iraq. Others have ironically decried the war because it has tied up our forces and prevented them from confronting criminal regimes in Sudan, Uganda, and elsewhere. I simply decided that the time for candid discussions of the oppressed was over, and I joined.

The bravery of some people astounds and humbles me. And I have survivors guilt over the fact that men and women younger than me are out serving and protecting me, and dying for me. For all of us. And they choose to do it, every day. The ultimate sacrifice has been paid by his wife, his parents ... his family. Such a bright light ... I will pray for his family, and I hope you will too.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." Isaiah 55: 8-9

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4: 16-18
