Notes: Zahra Kamalfar Needs Help
OJ Simpson. I remember my initial revulsion at the thought of this man cashing in on his past in order to make a buck. I'm not entirely sure that the book should have been canceled. I'm glad it was, because I think it's in horrible taste. He should not be able to write a "hypothetical" story on how he "might" have killed two people he was acquited of killing. Our justice system failed all those years ago. A sports/movie star was able to use race and theatrics to get out of a terrible crime.
And this is how I explain why this happening, and why he's so stupid. Criminals that get away with things, want people to know they got away with it. If he is as sick as I believe him to be, it would be tormenting him that he can't boast about how smart he is and how stupid everyone else is. What I hope is that the judge and the jury that acquited that monster are squirming and having a hard time sleeping at night. A criminal is at large with no hope of being punished. I sincerely hope that he doesn't have another relationship. I pity the woman stupid enough to get involved with him.
Next thing ... rumors of Bush agreeing to increasing taxes. Duh. A vote for a Democratic Congress is a vote to increase your taxes. And since the people voted and the Democrats were able to take control, I can only assume that a majority of the voters are okay with taxes being raised. Bush has no leverage. He has no capitol. Nothing to bargain with. His veto should be used on a proposal to raise taxes, but I doubt that it will be because of the issues above. And if the raises are what the author linked to above are asking for, many of us will not suffer right now. If we strive for a high standard of living and a comfortable income, we will be punished for it. The rule in America is if you make to much, you have to share. And those hit hardest will be those that run their own businesses or who work for themselves. The article makes good points though, that many of the workers/business owners are tax savvy, and would find other ways to declare their income in order to avoid high penalties. And if they aren't savvy their accountants are. And if you believe what the author said, the plan to eliminate the social security cap would end up costing the government money, and would still not cover the higher cost of social security because they would raise the pay outs along with the taxes.
Someone needs to wake up and realize that social security in its current form is an abomination that needs restructuring. If you are in my generation and not planning for retirement already, you are a fool. Because nothing will be certain in 55-60 years. And who knows what our "entitlements" will look like.
I could go all day on Social Security.
This is something that we need to be paying more attention to. We care so much about human rights, and we so much want to help those in need, and this woman is in desperate need. Someone needs to do something. We need a super hero.
For speaking out, this woman and her husband were jailed by the Iranian Regime. They escaped, made it out to Turkey ... well here, Michael Leeden of Pajamas Media says it better than me:
Zahra Kamalfar participated in demonstrations six years ago. She and her husband were jailed in 2004, in her case for 8 months. Released for a two-day furlough so she could see her two children (Ana and Davood), she and the kids escaped to Turkey with forged Bulgarian passports (her own was held by the regime).
She headed for Germany via Russia, but the Germans detected the false passports and send the three back to Moscow, where she applied for asylum. At first the family was permitted to live in an airport hotel, but then was dumped into the public area of the airport. They sleep in the open terminal, have no access to showers or baths, and use public toilets. The Russians are threatening to ship her and her children back to Iran, where she will undoubtedly receive very harsh treatment.
She has appealed for refugee status to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, but to no avail. There is an online petition www.petitiononline.com/Kamalfar/petition.html to both the UNHCR and Russian immigration authorities. Time seems quite short.
Ms Kamalfar is guilty of being an Iranian who wants to live in a free country. That is a felony in Ali Khamenei’s Iran, and a matter of considerable indifference to the “international community,” which neither helps people like her once they escape, nor the tens of millions of Iranians inside the country, even though their demands for freedom should be embraced and supported by all civilized countries and their peoples.
She was supposed to be put on a plane back to Iran today, probably a few hours ago. In Iran she will no doubt be punished severely for wanting to leave, leaving illegally, and for her demonstrating. Not to mention the embarrassment she's currently causing the nation. She's been living with her children in the airport for 76 days, waiting for word on what will happen to her. I'm worried that if she gets back to Iran they will put her to death. I don't know what the punishment will be. Christian News Wire says her punishment could be rape, torture and death.
Please pray for this woman and her family. She is guilty of speaking out against her leaders, speaking out against the Mullahs, and probably for doing so as a woman. Keep this woman with you in your prayers and thoughts, and be reminded that not everyone lives in this great nation where as women we are respected and treated equally.
