Round Up: Abortion, Guns in School, and Mark Foley.

Before I start, I just want to say I know this is an issue that strikes everyone at their core. I know that everyone, every woman, whether they vote one way or another, feels very strongly about this particular issue and its extremely divisive. I'm going to talk about Abortion. And I, personally, am against it. I think late term abortion should be illegal. I think abortion for a minor should require parental consent as anything regarding a minor should require parental consent. I think we should talk about birth control so we don't have to talk about abortion.

So you've been warned. Please do not read any further if what I say here will upset you. As I respect your right to your own opinion, I hope you will respect my right to have mine, no matter how wrong you feel it to be.

But this makes my stomach hurt.

While I know that there are those that wish abortions to be a main stream event, I don't think it's appropriate. Having that particular procedure done is an excruiating thing for any woman to have to choose to do, and while I'm not advocating shame, I am saying shame on Ms. magazine, for using those women and their heartbreaking stories to affect policy change and circulation.

I don't know. Would you walk around signing a petition saying you had a miscarriage? Doesn't that seem morbid? That's how this petition seems to me. Morbid. I terminated my pregnancy. The life created from half of my DNA is dead because I didn't want it, for whatever reason.

It is a tragedy, not something to celebrate or parade on the front page of newspapers. Even if they aren't ashamed of it, it is a sad thing.

On another note, today on the way to work I heard a talk radio host talking about how teachers should be armed with hand guns to protect themselves and our children. This all in the wave of the Amish school tragedy yesterday.

And here I differ from my conservative counterparts.

I am all about the 2nd Amendment, however, having guns in the classroom sounds like we're asking for a world of hurt. If there were guns in my childs classroom, my kid would go to a different school. What if the teacher thought that a problem child was a threat and shot before thinking?

No, best to leave the gun carrying to the professionals. Hire security guards. But alas, there is a money issue. Personally I would pay more in taxes if it meant keeping my child safe, but how do you ensure that that money is used appropriately?

And last, Mark Foley. Evil you have another face. I have seen the pages that work in the Congress and Senate and they are children, and just as suceptible to hero worship as the interns that file the halls. One of my most vivid memories was when Senator Frist was being interviewed by Chris Matthews in the Senate and I had to go watch the crew set up (they needed someone with Senate credentials to sit with them at all times). Chris Matthews walked in, and behind him were about 6 pages, all of them probably 17. Granted, having been in D.C. for longer than I, they were more savvy at what they were doing (asking for autographs), but they were babies. Someone's little darling that they sent to D.C. for the experience of a lifetime.

And my other memory of pages, was about 20 of them huddled around the Senate Majority Leader's office waiting for Arnold Schwarzenegger to walk by. They whispered and giggled and watched in awe. They were bright young kids, no doubt. And probably more wordly than my sheltered self at 17, but someones child none the less.

And I feel that what happened to those children was less important to those jerks in Washington than their political power. They used them. And they continue to use them. Nothing can be said to make any of them sound like good people. Since 2001 both sides knew about Foley's tendencies, and no one said anything. Digusting.

Evil takes many forms. And watching as that Evil man preyed on this nation's best and brightest children is evil. Shame, shame on them.

In happier news, Mavvy is doing wonderful, Lewis and I are well, and we celebrated his 27th birthday yesterday. Today, we eat cake!

Get it, it's a little pun from my earlier post regarding Marie Antoniette? :)
