Happy Pumpkin Carving

I bought a pumpkin a few days ago and have been waiting to carve it! I have not carved a pumpkin since I lived with my parents 7 years ago (man, has it really been that long?) and I really wanted to this year.

There are pictures of all of us kids, surrounding the kitchen table, daddy sitting in a chair and we're all pulling the pumpkin guts out. You had to get them all out before Dad would cut the eyes and stuff, some silly rule. I don't remember doing anything with the seeds or the rhine-we weren't big pumpkin eaters-but I have really fond memories of Halloweens as a kid. I was an orange crayon one year, a fairy princess, a poodle skirt girl from the 50s, a witch (I was in a school play that year as a scary witch too), and probably half a dozen others that I can't remember. My sister and I were pretty much the same thing every year (I was the pink fairy princess, she was the blue one). And mom made all of our costumes. I'm pretty certain mom walked us around each year, but dad probably did it a couple of times. But someone had to stay home to hand out the candy.

I trick or treated till I was 13 I think, probably a lot older than a lot of kids. I was in California and I went around with Amanda and her boyfriend and his friends. A little different than going around with mom and dad.

But 6 or 7, 4 or 13, the end of the evening was always the same.

Daddy ate all the candy. :) Or at least, all the good candy.

So this year I wanted to remember a little bit of that, and Lewis and I (with Mavvy's expert help) carved a great pumpkin.

Happy Autumn everybody!

Daddy walked us around when we were too young to go alone, remember? he wore his cowboy hat and boots, and that hideous brown pearl snap shirt. Cowboy every year. that's how it happened as far as I remember silly goose!
