Why I Don't like Nip / Tuck: A Charmed Fan's Perspective
Still clueless? Cole Turner was a central character on the WB's hit series Charmed. And I really liked him.
And yes, before you say it, I know I'm a nerd. I know that the key demographic for Charmed are 13-year-olds. I know. But everyone needs a guilty pleasure.
Speaking of guilty pleasures. Nip / Tuck is being touted as a guilty pleasure for the 18-35 crowd. And yesterday, while at our friends house eating pizza, we watched the season premiere.
Now I have to tell you, that we typically don't watch the show. I saw a few episodes its first season and it never grabbed me. I liked it okay, but it was just eh. Not anything worth staying home for. But yesterday, and please all you loyal Nip / Tuck fans don't hate me, I just saw the show as complete and utter garbage.
It's just not good. I came away from it feeling bad about even having watched it, like somehow I was as bad a person as those portrayed on television. There was no cussing and it wasn't particularly violent, but - and take the kids away now - there was just a lot of gratuitous sex. I know everyone is not as conservative as me, I appreciate that and realize the world is full of different styles and tastes. However, last nights episode was just raunchy. I don't like raunchy.
And as a rule I don't like the premise of the show because Julian McMahon is just a bad guy. Just not a good person. He hurts people and says bad things and behaves badly. And he was Cole! We loved Cole! And I think that's why I'm biased towards the show in general, because Julian McMahon, someone I really do like, is the bad guy. The immoral friend who has emotional issues and compensates by behaving in terrible ways.
The solution? I won't watch. That works for me. And I don't resent anyone else their guilty pleasure, but I really do wish Julian McMahon could have found a show that wouldn't have turned him into a real demon, versuses the pretend one he played on Charmed.
