Some more Information regarding Israel and the current conflict
Found this on Michelle Malkin who got it from Little Green Footballs.
Taken, of course, by a New York Times reporter Joao Silva. The link above is to the slide show that contains it. Now, what are you looking at? You're looking at a terrorist / insurgent sniper who is aiming his gun at either American military men and women or Iraqi armed forces. And the wonderful reporter? Just standing there, watching. Getting ready to take his next shot of the guys face as he either 1) misses or 2) hits his mark.
Let's hope you don't have to count on this guy if you're ever in trouble. He might take a picture of your attacker and call it art. And let's hope Freedom of Speech is never left into this persons care. He might just take a picture before the bad guys blow us up.
And you wonder why I don't watch CNN? You wonder why I second guess everything - everything - that I see on television and in print? Because these people do not care about our country, our servicemen or the rights of human beings to freedom of religion, speech and to live without tyranny. I wonder if you asked this man with his gun where he was from what he would say. You think he'd be from Iran? Or Syria? And what would that reporter put in that story then? Insurgent? Iraqi freedom fighter? The second one would be wrong. Either way.
And now we have the French calling for an immediate truce between Israel and Lebanon. That worked real well between the Palestinians and Israel. Not. What it really did was show Palestine that the Israelis are willing to give up a lot and put up with a lot to keep the peace. And what did that get them? Palestinians kidnapping two soldiers and holding them ransom. And a great big tunnel dug underneath their city where terrorists are coming through carrying bombs.
But look at how well the French Ambassador is working this situation:
What do we insist on ignoring terrorism? Why do we want to appease it? Why do we not realize that the threat is far greater than just a spike in oil prices? What do we think these terrorist organizations want? Just a little rucous and then they'll go home after we yell "truce?" No! They want to 1) "Israel should be wiped off the map" and 2) destroy all zionists, aka - westerns and most prominently, Americans. This isn't just some minor incident. This doesn't only affect Israel and its not going to go away. Israel's problem is America's problem.
I did see one good piece of news, Israel destroyed one of Hezballah's long range missiles. I count that as a victory for the good guys.
What I want to know, is how, after so much history and WWII, that people are not more apt to side with Israel on this. Is it because we are so petrified of an altercation? Or are France, Germany and others really in bed with these terrorist organizations? Like in the maffia, do they exchange support for protection? Do they promise to come out publically against Israel in exchange for little to no terrorist activity in their countries? Because off the top of my head here are some terrorists activities of the recent past:
Where is the German terrorist attack? Are they that much safer than the rest of us? Where is the French attack? I know they had riots earlier but that was an internal problem that the leadership later appeased. Because that's what they do. Seems funny to me, in a day and age when most everyone is afraid of being attacked in some way, and mostly through transportation, French and Germany seem to have no fear at all.
And another thing regarding the international community's call for "restraint." I disapprove of your calls for "restraint." Restraint is what we have done so far. When American men and women have been kidnapped (many of them civilians) we did not retaliate with bombs and with force but with careful questions and with "restraint." We later picked up the pieces of someones loved one after the terrorist internationally televised (or placed on the internet to later be internationally televised) their execution by beheading.
Clearly, "restraint" is not appropriate in all cases. And I haven't read international law or anything but I'm pretty sure kidnappings in general of military leaders is an act of war and can be met with an act of war. But hey what do I know. And to my mind, Israel's done nothing but be submissive in the face of all this crap. As Iranian leaders shout from their "thrones" that they wish for nothing more than Israel's annhiliation, Israel has just been diplomatic in the call for their removal from the UN. And in regards to Palestine, they moved out of Gaza, gave in to their demands. And have now been met with this wonderful little bit of friendship. Ridiculous.
And I list this whole crisis as just another one of the UN's failures. Because according to the Wall Street Journal, Lebanon was supposed to disarm Hezballah years ago, and clearly never did. So much for those great UN Resolutions. You know, those ones that disarmed Saddam too? Made him get rid of all that mustard gas we later found buried in the sand.

"De Villepin was speaking after meeting the Lebanese government in Beirut in an effort to find a solution to the confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah guerrillas. De Villepin arrived in Beirut on Monday to meet with Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and express France's support for Lebanon."I'm sure Israel will feel that De Villepin has their best interest at heart, and not the wishes of some thug party in Lebanon. And what's Villepin's position on the Palestinian bomber that was found today? Just an unrelated incident carried out by a lone gun man I guess? Not related to a terrorist network or the current events?

"As Israel continues to engage in military operations against Hezbollah in the hopes of retrieving its captive soldiers, it is important for U.S. observers and policymakers to keep in mind that the danger posed by Hezbollah is not merely an outgrowth of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but is the result of a calculated design by a ruthless terrorist organization that has killed Americans in the past and continues to support and assist those organizations that seek to kill Americans today. " ~ Dan Darling, Weekly Standard but taken from CBS.comAnd then this wonderful tidbit, marchers in Berlin chanting "Death to Israel" and "death to Zionists." How wonderful. Nice to see support from a country with such a spotless record when it comes to dealing with the Jewish people.

London Bombings
Madrid Bombings
9/11 needs no reference

"So far, Israel is limiting its military activities to Lebanon alone, out of the same abundance of restraint that has governed its behavior throughout the crisis. The democratic Lebanese government of Fouad Siniora bears its share of the blame, since it has failed to police its side of the border with Israel and failed to disarm Hezbollah, as required by Security Council Resolution 1559 and the 1989 Taif Accords that ended the Lebanese civil war. Senior Israeli military sources also claim that Lebanon tolerates the presence of hundreds of Iranian military personnel in Lebanon, again in violation of U.N. resolutions."
So see, yet again, the UN just isn't functional. I believe in diplomacy, I really do. But what's the point of these resolutions if the people involved aren't abiding by them? What, really, is the point? And why waste the money on jibber jabber if you're really not going to solve the problem?
Just one girls opinion.
