Manager Stacy H. Leads Team to World Series!
So here's my solution to the supposed "problem" the Astro's have. And really, I don't think the 'Stros have a problem. I think they are great! I love them rain, shine, win, lose, draw, triple, double, two runs or seven. They rock the catsba - and Houston should man up and get behind their boys.
But - I'm putting my Baseball Manager hat on, and here's what I would do with my team:
Send Lidge to the minors for the rest of the time before the All-Star break and bring him back in around Late August. Let him light up some minor leaguers, get some confidence. Then, bring him back for a game against the Cards. First pitch, throw and hit the mascot Bull Durham style. Ausumus could even say, "I don't know where it's going to go." It'd be hillarious. Then, next pitch, a ligtning fast ball over the inside of the plate. High and inside. Make him swerve to miss it. Third pitch, low and outside trying to do a slider. Lidge has a vicious slider. Next pitch - hit Pujols in the shoulder. Yup. Hit him. Hit him hard.
And then throw him out when he tries to steal second. :) That would rock. I'd love to see that game.
Lidge can get his groove back, he can. He is awesome. He used to be the most feared closer in the sport. No one could hit his stuff. He still has good stuff. What he doesn't have is confidence. And it shows.
And everything else that is "wrong" with the Astros is "wrong" with just about every other team in the sport. Every other real team that is. I don't count the Mets, Yankees, or Red Sox as real teams. Those are super teams, mammoth goliaths with huge pay checks and stupid rules. Except the Mets, no DH's over there.
And I have really decided I don't like the designated hitter. What a stupid thing. You just hit. Nothing else. You don't have to field a ball or catch a ball or save a ball or throw anyone out. Nothing. You just hit.
Anyway. I love baseball, I do. And the Astros game last night against the Rangers was awesome. We sat up high but they were really great seats. And they were inexpensive. I'd go every day if I could. If the Rangers would play the 'Stros every day.
And how can you not love the Houston Astros? They have the best players. And the best mascots and the best name. Astros? Astronauts? Come on! How cool is NASA?
