Just a Side Note
Why? Because they started it? Is he admitting that Iran and Syria perhaps instigated this altercation by having Hezbollah attack Israel at a vulnurable time (like when Gaza kidnaps an Israel soldier)?
And I want to comment on the 4 UN "observers" in Lebanon that were killed by airstrikes. Here's the quote from Breitbart:
Annan said he was shocked by the "apparently deliberate targeting by Israeli Defense Forces of a U.N. observer post in southern Lebanon."
Olmert called Annan to express his "deep regret" and say the U.N. post was hit inadvertently. He pledged to carry out a "thorough investigation" and would share the results with Annan, according to a statement from his office.
He expressed dismay over Annan's initial comments that the airstrike was "apparently deliberate."
"It's inconceivable for the U.N. to define an error as an apparently deliberate action," Olmert's statement said.
This is exactly why Israel didn't want a UN peace keeping force in Lebanon in the first place. They didn't want to have to worry about collateral damage. And it's not so ridiculous for Annan to say it was deliberate, his people were in Lebanon, after all, not Isreal. Who's side are they on if they are on the terrorists side of the aisle?
And another jewel, this one from a Senior Hezbollah leader:
As the Israeli incursion continued, the senior Hezbollah leader said the guerrillas had not expected such an onslaught when they killed eight Israeli soldiers and captured two others during a cross-border raid on July 12.
"The truth is, let me say this clearly, we didn't even expect (this) response ... that (Israel) would exploit this operation for this big war against us," Komati told the AP.
Israel is exploiting? Who attacked who here? And what exactly DID you expect when you entered a neighboring country, killed 8 of their citizens, and kidnapped others and then threatened to extradite them to Iran? Maybe they are being exploited, but it is not by Israel. Call big brother in Syria and Iran, ask them who they think is exploiting who here.
And nice that they are speaking to the press. Anyone else get a sound bite? Maybe Osama Bin Laden will do a sit down with Katie Couric next, say he didn't "expect" Afghanistan to get blown to high heaven after 9/11. Wouldn't that be cute.
Pyscho Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad pipped in today too. He wants a cease fire with no conditions. What does that mean? Both sides just stop? Or Israel just stops and Hezbollah, being a terrorist organization and really not bound by logic, rules of engagement, or international law, can keep bombing, killing, and kidnapping Israeli people at will. Oh let me stop, because he explains!I suppose next he'll say that Israel needs to pay reparations to Germany for lying about the Holocaust. And he only supports them politically and morally? Carefully leaving out financially or militarily? What about THIS. This guy, is someone that Kofi Annan says needs to be involved in a peaceful solution? I think we need to look at the whole idea of diplomacy and make a few careful observations. In addition to a cease-fire, Ahmadinejad called for talks on the Lebanon crisis
without conditions and demanded Israel compensate the country and apologize for
its actions. He said Iran only supports Hezbollah politically and morally.
One, diplomacy only works when both sides of the aisle are logical, thoughtful people who value human life and, more importantly, the lives of their citizens. In the case of terrorist organizations (and those that say the Holocaust never happened) we know for sure that human life and their peoples lives don't matter to them, so that's out, and logic doesn't really play either. So how, precisely, do you intend to be diplomatic with Hezbollah when they could really care less if their people live or die?
Lebanon is the one crying foul play. Well FINE Lebanon - get the stupid terrorists out of your country like the UN told you too!
And this, from the Iran Press Service, "You are the sun of Islam, shining on the Universe!" This of course in reference to Hezbollah. I don't know why I'm always shocked to see stuff like this in print. It's like I don't really believe that people think this way. Like it's just a talking point. I have to go. This is depressing me.
