Imaginary Borders
I've been a citizen of this country all my life. Never once has my citizenship been questioned or has it stopped me from getting work. When asked on an employment application if I am eligible to legally work in the United States, I can check "yes" without hesitation. I was born here, my birth certificate is from Abilene, Texas. No question, I'm an American.
So maybe I take for granted our wonderful little country. Maybe I don't understand how hard it is to find a job in Mexico. Maybe I don't appreciate my religious freedom and my right to speak my mind. Maybe I don't do all those things. But what I don't understand, is why those that enter this country illegally are now able to protest out in the streets that our laws are unfair.
Pardon, what did you say? You aren't a citizen of my country. You don't vote in my elections. You don't determine my laws. Its like France protesting our laws and expecting us to honor their requests and change our laws.
I don't want to keep people out. If you want to come to this country, by all means, come. Get a work permit, get a visa, go to school, get an education. What ever. I don't care. But don't come here illegally, demand health care and education for your children on my tax dollars and then protest in the streets that our laws are unfair. I don't care if 200 years ago California was part of Mexico. You lost it. There was a war. You were paid. We bought it. Live with it. If you want all Mexicans to be Americans than maybe we should just buy Mexcio outright and assimilate it into the United States completely. Make all of them pay taxes. Give all of them the right to welfare (oi vay). I know, simplistic solution. Probably uneducated solution. Whatever. This protesting by illegal immigrants because they came here illegally is complete crap.
60% of this country does not want amnesty for illegal immigrants. 60%! Every other country on this planet has immigration laws that they manage very strictly. You are not just allowed to be a resident of France. And if I'm correct, its very difficult to become a resident of France. Its very difficult to because a resident of any country other than the one you were born in. Oh, except of course in America.
And I'm not wanting to change that. Let them come here. Let the oppressed and those looking for opportunity come here. Let them find work and find the American dream we're all searching for. But don't run across the Texas-Mexico border and then scream at me that I wont pay your childrens medical bill and that I want you to go home. Don't tell me that I have to allow you in simply because you cheated and want this to happen this way. 11 million illegals are in this country right now. That's an unimagineable number. 11 million people have snuck across our borders and through our security and are now benefiting from our services. This doesn't effect me now, but it will in ten years. When my children are in a classroom with 35 other kids, half of whos parents are here illegally and who are not paying taxes.
Can I have my voucher please? Because my kids going to private school.
Again, I'm just being simplistic. I'd love for my child to go to public school, granted that public school works for my child. But living here in Texas, where the Hispanic community will be the majority in the coming years, and where illegal immigration really hits home, I wonder how many children they will go to school with whos parents are not paying taxes.
And what the heck is going on in Washington? Oh I know. They hear 11 million and they hear 11 million votes. Work visas for all of them? I agree with the guy I heard last night that said that's just a slave labor program. If they aren't getting citizenship, send them back home. Oh, but how can you send home 11 million people?
That's why they're paid the big bucks. Figure it out Senators. And I'm very disgusted with the whole lot of you. 9 trillion dollars? Amnesty bills? Social Security that's still going to tap out my generation? Health Care? What happened to the party of small government? What happened to the party of freedom? I know that in times of war we have higher bills to pay, but um ... that 9 trillion's a little bloated with Pork.
Okay I'm done. I'm just really unhappy with the state we're in. Who knows who else is able to get through these borders. I don't know how much border patrol knows about cultural differences, but an extremist muslim and a hispanic man looking for a job probably don't look all that different in the dead of night crossing under a wire.
