U. Speak
New York Union Strike.
Again I am rolling my eyes. Why do Unions really think that they can tell employer's how much to pay a person that hasn't added a new skill to his "set" in 30 years? A bus driver ... a bus driver wants more than a 4% raise increase per year (not tied to performance reviews or goals) and wants a better retirement and health care plan.
Welcome to the rest of the country's reality.
Health care and retirement are now your personal responsibility, not that of your employer. Raises? Want a raise? Do a better job. Have a tangible description of how you bettered the company's performance for the year. Than you'll get a raise. And if it's like the rest of the world, you'll get a 4% raise and that'll be considered a "good" raise.
People have jobs because employers have needs. Employers have needs because they are growing or have a task that needs to be accomplished by a person with a certain skill. People do not have an inherent right to work. We must prove to an employer that we are worth hiring and will do a good job.
So, strikers, prove to your boss you are going to do a good job. Or risk being fired.
I wish that were the case. If it were any other company these people would be fired and new people hired on. There are enough unemployed out there that would love to have a 50K salary with benefits. I'm sure we could find someone to drive that bus and get those people to work.
I dislike unions. In school I learned they were good things (product of a government education as Boortz would say) but now I just don't think so. In school I learned that they saved coal workers and steel workers from having work in subhuman conditions. Maybe they did once.
But what is subhuman about a 4% raise increase, having to put 1% of your funds into your own healthcare and retirement, and moving the retirement age from 55 to 62? What's so subhuman about that?
Take a pill strikers -- and GET BACK TO WORK.
