Media Bias: A sampling
I hate this crap. Everything I read makes me want to throw something. Some examples:
1. Bush's Approval Rating is up. Ah, but here is a quote from a story on ABCNews.com by reporter Gary Langer:
"Overall, 47 percent of Americans in this ABC News/Washington Post poll now approve of George W. Bush's work in office; 52 percent disapprove. While hardly robust, that is up from a career low 39 percent-60 percent in early November to its best in nearly six months."
I can almost hear the reporter gaffawing at how paltry 47% is. The nerve. He won re-election with 48% approval rating. Either way.
2. Judge bars "Intelligent Design" from PA Classes. Oh I can hear the New York Times crying about this one. Not. The headline at its most basic level is correct. But really, it's not. The judge said they could not read the one paragraph blurb on intelligent design that contradicts the theory evolution in biology class in PA. He didn't dramatically bar anything from any classroom. And this one really breaks my heart. In a world where Barbara Walters is going to condescendingly ask "How do we get to Heaven?" we are banning creationism to even be mentioned in a paragraph to school children. Which brings me to my third irritant of the day...
3. Barbara Walters Takes Viewers to 'Heaven'. Where do I even begin. Little quotation marks around heaven notwithstanding ... here is a great quote from Reuters reporter Barry Garron:
"What you are likely to learn from this ABC News production, if you didn't know already, is that religious leaders have not only the sketchiest of notions as to what heaven is but also contradictory ideas of what goes on there."
Well call the National Guard! You're kidding me? Man doesn't have a clear idea of what paradise looks like or what goes on there? No kidding? Well color me stupid I thought for sure that the Rabbi, Priest and Minister that Miss Walters interviews would surely know what goes on there.
If you can't see it I'm rolling my eyes. This is just further proof that media elites don't get it. Please, please, if you have questions about heaven and your soul and your entrance into heaven, read the Bible. Go to church. Please do not count on Barbara Walters and the smucks over at ABC to save your soul. They are not going to have an enlightened approach to the subject.
Here's another great quote:
"That there is so little agreement about heaven might suggest that most of us have been making it up as we go along."
AHHHH!! What? Making it up as we go along? The Bible has not changed in a gazillion years (rough estimate) and the basic principles on entrance and what awaits us are there in the Bible, not in the minds of Barbara or in a Priest or a Rabbi or any other person on earth. In fact, if these people are not directly quoting from the Bible throughout the entire interview, then all Barbara is doing is ascertaining what these people believe Heaven to be, and not what Heaven has been told to be from the scriptures.
Here's another interesting story on the special: Walters Searches for Stairway to Heaven. This quote is nice, comparing Christianity to Muslim Extremism:
"In an interview with Ted Haggard, president of the National Association of Evangelicals, she uncovers a similarity to Jarrar: both men believe that following their own God is the only guarantee of entrance into heaven. In Haggard's case, it's Jesus Christ.
"Does God mean for you to be so judgmental?" Walters asks him."
Why no Barbara, Jesus has asked that we love our neighbor and to love all mankind as our brothers. But to the start of the quote, Jihad Jarrar was told by his spiritual leader that if he became a suicide bomber he would be rewarded with virgins in Heaven. He pointedly told Barbara that if she did not convert to Islam, she would go to hell. Barbara's response, while not directly quoted here, I believe is "So you want me to go to hell?" To which Jarrar replies, "It is not what I want, it is what God wants."
In the next breath the reporter posts the quote I have above, comparing Evangelical Christians to Jarrar, a Muslim extremist in prison in Jerusalem, and therefore successfully says that those that believe Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior are effectively the same as Muslim Extremists who believe the only way to Heaven is through Allah.
Well, for the record, nothing in the Bible says that if you blow people up you will be rewarded with Virgin's in Heaven. And while I'm no theologian, there is nothing in the New Testament that says killing anyone will get you into Heaven. Find that in the teaching of Islamic Extremism.
I know I'm being super sensitive. I know that everyone does not believe what I believe. But it's Christmas time! This is the time to celebrate God and the birth of Jesus and what is the media and indeed our culture doing? Belittling the importance of Heaven and the promise that God makes with man through the sacrifice of his son with a condescending interview, and banning the reading of a paragraph that explains that some people believe in Creationism.
I take heart in the fact that there are more people in the world than those that write these articles. I take heart in the fact that there is a plan. I take heart in the fact that I believe what I believe and my faith makes me stronger and a better person. I take heart that perhaps I can be a good example, and try my best to be a good and faithful person.
Merry Christmas everyone -- we have so much to be thankful for and we are so blessed. These small things annoy me but they are not the center of my world. I saw a wonderful, wonderful episode of 7th Heaven the other day, about the true meaning of Christmas. And it was such a great show. The episode synopsis doesn't do it justice. But just know the Camden's don't exchange presents on Christmas, they volunteer and are those that are needy and they celebrate together. With things like that still being created and rallied around, I believe there is hope for us all.
