Go 'Stros!
First -- I love baseball. Its fabulous. I love it I love it. First of all, its the "great" conversation. Don't know what to talk about? Asks if the locals follow the local team. Don't know what to say? Ask if they saw the baseball game last night. This works exceptionally well in an industry (mine - and sadly most others) that is dominated by men. And what's the most amazing thing about it? The men are generally so shocked that a female (me) knows anything about sports that they continue the conversation without comment or much fuss. Thank you to my fiancee for making me a semi-sports fan (I still dont like football or basketball). Baseball is great.
Go Stros! One game away guys! One game away! I love baseball. Adam Everett, shown here, is my hero. And Berkman. They made the game winning double play at the end of the 9th inning. It was the coolest play I've ever seen. Next to the White Sox double play from third base two nights ago. Amazing what these guys can do. I love them. I love Roger Clemens. I love how he growls down at the pitchers and isn't afraid to brush them back -- or hit them in the head. I was saying, if Roger had been pitching after that bogus play for the White Sox and the Angels where the catcher didn't tag the runner at the plate and the guy ran, he probably would have hit the next batter up. Just because. Because he's Roger. And we love him. ONE GAME AWAY! I can hardly believe it. But what is with the lack of love for the Astros? "The Great Escape," or "Astros a Giant Leap Away." Or how about "Cards dealing with Many Injuries." And that's a Canadian paper!
Announcers are the worst. Constantly giving excuses for Cardinals players, oh he's hurt oh he's this. Constantly saying crap like, "The Cardinals still have a chance to make it." Oh yeah? Where's the "The Astro's have a HUGE chance of making it!" It doesn't exist. I don't get it. Same thing with the Braves. Braves this Braves that ... they were all going to cry if the Braves lost. Well -- they cried. And they are going to cry again. The Astros are an astounding team. Astounding. Astounding Astronomical team. I love them. It's a new love, well, really a love from last year. When we almost had it, I could taste it. I cried when we lost game 7 in the 9th. Not this year people! This year I will celebrate!
Roger Clemens has one of the best records in baseball. He's 9th for all time. All Time! Brad Lidge can't not save a game. And apparently Burke can't not get a home run. And Biggio -- come on. He's just a great ball player. We love him. What a game. What a team. I love it. If I hear one more stupid thing about Albert Pujols ... oh well.
In other news -- Tom Delay's campaign contributions are up (at least for the time before the indictment). And I submit to you this story in the Boston Herald DeLay hustles to replenish his voter pool. Hmm...Delay is pretty well loved in Sugarland, Texas. He won his last election by 55%, his lowest yet. 55 isn't really all that low, in my view. But the Boston Herald story -- if it got any more biased I think it'd need a warning. They interviewed democrats and had one quote from Tommy D. Do we really think the Dems are going to give this guy a fair shake? Nope. And they certainly don't speak for me with their "Tom Delay is surrounded by controversy and people are sick of it," rhetoric. They want people to be sick of it. Desperately. They are betting the farm that people are sick of it. I bet this -- that indictment and all, Tommy D will be re-elected. I submit this as well ... Tom Delay prosecutor tied to Miers-run lottery: Ronnie Earle received illegal contribution from Ben Barnes with no consequence. Not that I think the "Everyone does it" defense should be employed here. But there you have it.
Oh well. I love baseball. And so today instead of going on and on about how much I don't like this, or this or how much this angered me, today I leave us with the joyful fall sound of the bat cracking against a baseball, flying into left field and into the Crawford seats. Go 'Stros -- see you in the World Series!
